Very improved course conditions
The course has seen some rough times lately after making the change to champion bermuda greens. With the summer months allowing for a bit more optimal conditions for those greens, they are now looking great and not playing quite as fast as they had over the heavy rains in the area until late spring. The fairways are in much better shape after those rains as well, looking much more lush and filled in. Sand traps could use some more actual sand, but this is not dissimilar from most public courses in the bay area. Tee boxes were hit or miss through the day, some being well kept and flat others uneven or not much surface to hit from. This is not a problem typically though if you dont mind taking a few steps back from the markers. Overall the course was pleasant to play and would probably be more enjoyable right after a fresh mow, if you are like me and dont always hit fairways. The staff is quick and friendly and prices are fair. Overall enjoyed the round and am pleased at the reasonably quick turnaround on course conditions from just afew months ago.
none
We played Lone Tree at noon on Monday and the course and more particularly the greens were
in good condition, mowed and rolled.
We played as a foursome and finished in about 4 hours.
Staff were helpful and cooperative.
Greens are making a comeback!
Greens have finally grown in and are looking great. Greens have not yet been cut and putts are currently abnormally slow. Greens should be cut within a couple of weeks and should be in super shape.
SAND TRAPS
I do not like the fact that your sand traps do not have any sand in them and they're nothing but hard pack wet dirt
Greens
The greens on this course is very rough. A lot of sand on the greens as well. Putting can be tough with these greens because you cannot judge how much the greens will altar your balls routes to the hole.
Been to Long
Great course, great people working there.. one of the grounds crew even pointed out a lost ball I could not find after my drive.
Change in greens was a poor decision.
Albeit, I have not been to a golf course management school, I have played hundreds of different courses throughout my career (very amateur). Lone tree is a staple for me and the boys based on price/location/availability... yet last year, during the prime of the season, they made a change to Bermuda grass greens, if I’m not mistaken. This not only upset the entire season last year, but the greens lay dormant all winter and spring and now have come back with disease ridden patches throughout. You’d have better luck rolling a putt down Lombard than rolling one on here. For the most part, LTGC is a great spot for the money. The food is excellent, although drinks are a bit over priced, and the events center and pro shop are staffed with friendly and attentive people. I don’t know what spurred the decision to change the grass on all of the greens... but at this point, 1 year later, it seems to have been the wrong decision.
Greens are trash
I live in Antioch and used to love playing this course, but the green are simply unplayable. If you don’t mind playing and just working on your ball striking it’s great. It’s disappointing to make a great approach shot on the green and not to be able to putt.
We played Lone Tree at noon and finished in about 4
hours.
The course is in reasonable condition but fairways were
being punched at the time of our game.
Greens are the new Bermuda, which are brown in the winter
and green the rest of the year, they were fast and true and
in good order.
I would recommend this course to a friend.
My Cheers Course
Lone Tree is the jewel of Antioch, a shining gem in a town that just can't get its act together.
Ron and his staff have toiled over the last 3 years to really make this course MUCH BETTER. They set out to replace the grass on the greens with a special Bermuda that on the 2 year old greens are flat and fast. Some of the first years greens like 9 are struggling, but Ron's staff is on it, and doing their best with Mother Nature to bring them around. Traps are hit or miss some are excellent some are hard pack, but like many things at Lone Tree, Ron's getting it done.
For the money , this place is a gift! I play here several times a week. It's close, afternoon pace is fast, I've played dozens of 2.5 hours rounds without even working hard.
This ain't pebble, and never will be, but it is a fantastic local course with it highs and lows. Accept it for what it is and you're ALWAYS have a great round,
I sure do!
Great Condition
Lone Tree is in very good condition. Probably the best I’ve seen. Greens are coming in and rolling nice. Still some trouble with a couple of the greens. Fairways are in great shape also. The staff should be commended for getting the course back in shape after the last few years.
The only complaint is I played the night of a league and they had groups of 6 playing. Very slow and the groups were not letting other faster groups play through.
I really appreciate the youth programs they have going and allowing the high school teams to play matches.
Course was just not in good shape. The grass in the tee box was about what a rough should be. The fairway's and actual rough were just so long it was hard to find your ball.
Nice course with horrible greens
I played Lone Tree on 4/3/19. I teed off in the morning and played all 18 holes. The course is in bad shape. They rebuilt all 18 greens and the new greens are in horrible shape. Bumpy, sand everywhere and dead spots. Your ball bounces all over the place. The fairways were in need of mowing and chunky. It is too bad since it is a neat course with a nice layout. It has some cool holes on it. They really need to get it back int shape.
Still as I remembered
It had been two years since playing here as the first time I had played here conditions were poor at best with numerous temporary greens.Much to my surprise it was worse this time.
Starting with parking,if you come sunday forget it,Parking lots are always full from the buffet so finding parking is as hard as finding your ball on the fairway which looked like they had just cut it fron 5 inches in length with tons of lawn trimmings laying on top for your ball to hide under and keep you searching.
Greens were the worst I have played ever, right there with Bethel Island, literally dirt with tiny remnants of grass starting to grow. Some was dryed mud all cracked and like a desert but the funniest thing was the locals talking about how much better the greens were now......Are you kidding me?Better then what putting in mud I suppose. We ended up joining the guys in front of us the last half as we waited every hole and people were slicing balls off constantly into our fairway from ours yelling "FORE",luckily no one got hit.Funny part was when one of the guys said its hard to judge the putts now some grass is starting to grow on the green, imagine that grass on the greens what an inconveinance.I laughed at that and he started lkaughing as well after saying that but the ball rolled so bumpy down the patchy dirt hardpan.....I should have really taken photo's and posted them but didn't.Anyway if you too don't like grass on the greens like those guys then this is the place for you.
Putting on concrete/dead greens
Horrible, and I mean HORRIBLE greens....!!!!!!!with all the rain you’d think the course would have greens maintained and in great condition, but they were all dark brown, and looked stripped, but “according” to the pro shop that’s just how Bermuda grass is around this time of the year....They are a plain rip off and not worth the money, 45$ hot deal is INSANE to charge here LOL....Golfnow.com needs to make it clear that the greens at this course are in terrible condition...!!!!
Hi. Thanks for leaving feedback. We are sorry to hear some disappointments in your round. Our greens are Champion Bermuda and yes they are dormant in the winter so the color is brown; this is completely new to Nor Cal but it is going to be more and more common. The greens are firm (which is a great quality and roll fast); our members are really enjoying them. They have one more year of growth to reach full maturity. Hope you try them again, particularly in the Summer heat when other greens are dieing, these will be thriving.
