This is a fantastic golf links located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. I played this course in September 98', I thought the layout was superb. My favourite hole is the par 3 called the 'Dell', the green is completely hidden by a large mound and the pin position is indicated by a white slab on top of the mound. If you can hit your shot directly over the mound with at least a 7 iron the ball should drop down about 30-40 feet and bounce on to the discret green. The huge amount of marram grass should ensure that golf balls will get lost easily so bring at least 4. Hiring a caddie is also advisable as the course can become complicated in areas. The greens are fast and are maimtained perfectly. The 18 is another marvellous hole with a beautiful fairway. The playability of the course depends greatly on the weather, wet and wind are very common this makes driving extremely hazardous, however in calm conditions it isn't as difficult. The duration of the round could be anything up to 5 hours the time passes quickl y though. Green Fees aren't to bad for students I played for just IR£12 ($18). It costs more for adults around IR£30 ($45) I think but for lovers of links courses it is a'must play' and it definitley lives up to it's billing as the 'St.Andrews' of Ireland.

An excellent opportunity to enjoy a sense of links golf the way it was played many years ago...the blind shots bewilder and the ones you can see are not easy either. Tough to pass this up if you have a chance. I lucked out and played with someone who had played the course, but if you can afford a caddie it is worth the price. Even my caddie at Royal Co. Down said he would use a caddie at Lahinch...forget about score, enjoy the views and the shot-making and the marvelous nearby town of Doolin...played in May 99.
