Course Reviews

Course Name Granite Springs Golf Club
Location Armdale, Nova Scotia, Canada
Comments from R. Ouellet, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Granite Springs is built out of a Granite quarry. It is lined with a total of 28 ponds on 18 holes. Most greens are bunkered at the front by a pond of some description, or are located on the top of a hill. Greens are kept fairly hard and do not hold very well, requiring high shots with little roll. This is an unforgiving golf course not designed for forgiveness mid to high handicappers will learn to hate it and low handicappers may learn to appreciate it the second or third time. The first round is sur e to swear anyone off the game. The best part of this golf course is the superb service you will receive from the time you park your vehicle. The club house bar and restaurant services are the best in the region.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the changes at Granite Springs for 2000. They have developed a saying that "One of Atlantic Canada's most challenging courses.... is now more forgiving!". There is far less granite in fact while I was there they were removing it by the truckloads. There is a major improvement along the fairways as they have trimmed and cleared a lot of the brush out, much easier to find your ball. The service level is still the best in Atlantic Canada and the clubhouse is a real gem. I encourage all golfers good and bad to come out and try this real beautiful course located in Shad Bay, Nova Scotia.

I still found the course to be very unforgiving. The ground surrounding the greens is very hard with very little hold.
