Number 1 rated public golf course in NJ; awesome condition. For a course only one year old, this course is a stand out. The course has no trees. Irish theme is a nice touch along with the bagpiper each evening. Check out Ballyowen at least once. (Watc h for the sheep on the 12th hole.)

If you always wanted to play golf in Scotland but have not had the chance, Balleyowen offers the opportunity to experience a bit of Scotland right here in NJ. A links style course carved into the rolling countryside of Sussex County, NJ, lined with heather, and made appropriately challenging by water and sand hazards, every hole can be seen from a beautiful club house that sits on a hill overlooking the course. An outstanding golf experience for golfers of all levels touched off by a kilted bagpiper who ends the day of golf at 7 pm by strolling along the 18th fairway playing his bagpipe. A Great Gorge Golf Reserve course, and a memorable experience for everyone who plays it.

Opened on June 26, 1998, Ballyowen has quickly become recognized as one of the state's best courses. Jersey Golfer magazine and the NJ Golf Course Owners Association both voted Ballyowen the #1 Public Golf Course in the state for 1998. Situated on 250 sprawling acres within rolling farmland, craggy knolls, plunging quarries, and overlooking the spirited Walkill River, Ballyowen is artistically crafted out of its uniquely natural landscape.
The links-style layout provides golfers with a kaleidoscopic array of verdant fairways, pristine white bunkering, and wheat-yellow native rough grasses. Between shots, golfers can gaze in all directions and soak in the panoramic beauty of the Appalachian Mountains. Beware the player who pays too much attention to the scenery...each hole requires skillful navigation. Yet, as much as the course provides a challenge to the championship player, it is designed to afford golfers of all skill levels multiple tee locations from which they can begin their "eighteen" quests. Nowhere will you find such sprawling tee areas. Throw in the unpredictable wind patterns, and the course you play on Saturday can be an entirely different golf course than the one you play on Sunday.
