| West Texas' premier golf destination is now Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo Texas. After fully opening for play in May of 1997, Quicksand has rapidly become known as an oasis for golfers of all skill levels. With five separate tee boxes, Quicksand can play as short as 5,023 yards and as long as 7,171 yards, leading to a memorable and enjoyable experience to players of all skill levels. Designed by the renowned Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Quicksand is majestically poised overlooking the scenic Concho River a nd is home to ( and you will probably see) deer, turkey, quail, and all sorts of other wildlife. In the spring, Texas native wildflowers bloom vigorously throughout the grounds. Well over 1,000,000 yards of earth were moved to create this masterpiece tha t has been called one of the most scenic combinations of both desert and links style architecture ever designed. Special care has been taken to ensure absolute harmony with the natural surroundings and the resident wildlife. With three beautiful and strat egically placed lakes and over one hundred sand bunkers, Quicksand is the culmination of state of the art design and construction techniques. These techniques, combined with no expense being spared during, or after construction, result in an ultimately pl ay able golf course that is all but immune to rainfall induced closure. |

Quicksand is a wonderful test of iron play off the tee. After working my way into the mid 70's on various courses in west Texas, I was suprised to find this kind of test that close to home. With a crazy amount of sand traps on nearly every hole, I found my second shot in the traps on 5 consecutive holes. My first round 88 (and then an 86 on Sunday) was a truly humbling experience. Everyone MUST play this course at least once! But first take my advice: Learn to lay up, it will save you several strokes and add a ton of confidence. Good luck! August/99 |
