Course Name Vale do Lobo Golf Club, Algarve, Portugal
Location Uxbridge, South Carolina, USA

Stupendous views, good holes, rather traditional atmosphere. We loved playing the par 3 near the sea, over the cliffs.

The most interesting hole on the Vale do Lobo Complex was Hole 7 on the yellow 9 hole course, teeing off over a somewhat daunting, deep ravine, the temptation being to aim right to avoid it. However, well worth losing a ball or two to experience this most scenic of golf's holes - now part of an enlarged 18 hole course, I understand. That was in '94, and hope to try it again in '98 !

The previously reported Hole 7 is now 16 on the enlarged Royal Course of 18 holes. I did play this course in July 1998 as I had hoped, but just the once. At that time of the year, it is too hot for many and, believe it or not, I played the complete 18, as a single, without seeing another person! This course was opened by the Prime Minister of Portugal in 1996, and the superb quality of the greens, tees and fairways have to be seen, to be fully appreciated. By far the best I have ever seen. Also now 18 holes, is the Ocean Course - two 18 hole courses to supersede the original three 9 holes. The club house, administration and equipment are of the same high standard and I can recommend the entire experience. The original three nine hole courses and the projected fourth, were designed by the great and late Sir Henry Cotton MBE.
