Awesome views of the seaside. The best non British open rotation course in Scotland. A must do. Try the 17th, a par three with an old stone wall that you must play over off the tee. Castles everywhere!

A must play when in the area---3rd best after Muirfield and Gullane #1-though I played in sunshine and warmth in Nov.! It is severly windy there along the shore... The town is friendly and welcome after the big city of Edinburgh. The course runs along th e shore and has awesome views and some holes you will not find anywhere else---if not rushed. Check where the flag is--there are blind approaches---it costs me 6 strokes in two holes---great par threes...

North Berwick is a total experience. Not only is the course remarkable, the whole atmosphere of the golf club is such that I have never met it's like anywhere else in the British Isles. When it comes to memorable golf holes the par 3 13th (the pit) is som ething I'll always remember.

I agree the West Links is a great course, but the comments posted earlier have some errors. The Pit (the 13th) is a par four; it is the 16th that plays over the wall on the tee shot (and to a unique green with a valley in the middle). Also the 16th is a par 4 as is the 17th which is a long hole with a blind approach.

The West Links was one of my favorite courses in Scotland. The pit green (#13) sits beside a rock wall-the other side of the wall from the fairway. #16 "The Gate" was a jewel. You tee off 30 yds in front of a rock wall 4 feet high. Clear that and you have to carry 206 yds to clear a burn that runs parallel to the rock wall. Pray for no wind (in Scotland, right). If you make that, you can shoot for a narrow green that sits at a 45 degree angle and has a 4 foot deep swale that separates the front from the back. If you miss the green use your putter! Also has famous par 3 Redan.
