| My home course as a child. Anyone that belongs to a private club can play there. The foothills are beautiful in spring, but can be very hot in the late summer (100 in the afternoons). This course is listed as un-walkable by the NCGA. The 18 hole 71 par course links around a man-made lake. The ninth hole ends across the lake from the Club House, so if you play nine, take a cart! I suggest playing all 18. The course has lots of water and two signature holes. The par 4 6th has an elevated tee that is s everal hundred feet above the fairway with tall pines between the tee and the fairway. I have seen many people pull out a driver an stick it into the pines (I have been there myself many times), but the hole plays about 375 yards and the fairway can be r eached with a mid-iron...sound easy? Stand up on that tee box and see if you can get yourself to pull out that long iron. I bet you reach for the driver! Here is the catch...You can't see the fairway from the tee because of the trees! The par 5 8th pl ays under 500 yards, but is one of the best holes I have every played. A creek runs along the right side of the tee box, out about 200 yards and then crosses into the fairway to split it into to fairways. If you play the safe shot, you will never be abl e to land the ball on the green because of the angle you left yourself. If you play across the water, the green will be reachable with a PW, but that part of the fairway is very tight...with OB on one side and water on the other. A person with guts can go for it in 2...just dont miss right, long or left (OB, OB, Water)! The rest of the course is beautiful also. The catch...No two fairways run side by side! OB with homes an each side of every fairway...and all of them are tight. Enjoy. |
