Course Name Cruden Bay Golf Club
Location Cruden Bay, Scotland

Similar to many Irish courses, in that it winds it's way among towering sand dunes, as opposed to over undulating, predominantly flat linksland. Very entertaining built by Simpson, for the same purpose as Turnberry to entertain travellers by train. Bri lliant and well worth the trip north of Aberdeen.

Eight of us just returned from playing 13 big name courses all over Scotland. Cruden Bay was the unanimous choice for most spectacular. The vistas next to the sea or high atop the cliffs were beyond description, even on a bad day. This course is a must!

Hard to find, easy to long to go back to!

Cruden Bay is one of the most spectacular courses I played in Scotland in May '98. What views to go along with a superb layout. I am already planning my next visit!

A l926 fairly hidden gem designed by Tom Simpson and Fowler. Winds through high dunes and up to spectacular views at the tenth tee. Many fine holes especially in the middle of the course. My favorite is the 8th a par 3 of par 4 length (260 plus) but with modern balls and equipment driveable. Miss the triangular green and pressure will be put on your short game as all sides slope away. After dropping down to the seashore and avoiding a burn and mounds one reaches the l8th. 420 with OB on left and a burn on the right the best challenge of all- the walk back up the hill to the clubhouse! A couple of fingers of Glenmorangie will be needed to war off the fatigue. Wouldn't everyone want to play a course designed by Simpson who rode around in his chaffeur driven Rolls Royce and wearing an embroided CAPE and beret?
