| Austin Lodge Golf Course lies in the nicest bit of Kent you have ever seen. It is a par 73 which on it's day can play as long as you can hit the ball Par 5 548, Par 4 415, Par 3 226. The club house looks like it was picked up in Portugal and dropped in Kent. |

| I made two attempts to play this course. The first time, I was unable to penetrate the absurd, unEnglish security gate. The second time, I was told that singles were not allowed on the course, ever. I have now given up. It is an extremely unfriendly place which is a pity because it is set in beautiful countryside. |

| Great test of golf with every hole different, very friendly club house. |

Interested to read Ambrose Evans Pritchard's remarks. He should persevere. Having scoured the southern and western outskirts of London for interesting, uncrowded golf at a reasonable price, I think Austin Lodge is the best, so long as you don't mind a stiff walk. A long but wide open and pretty forgiving course that makes the most of its beautiful downland setting, which is miraculously secluded given the location - you scarcely see a building all round and there is good wildlilfe. In very dry conditions the steep slopes can be cruel; at the moment it is green and lush, the rough benign and the greens ridiculously slow. Best of all, it never seems to take ages to get round; a consequence of the unfriendliness of which AEP complains no doubt. Could you pass these comments on to him; if he wants a game there, I'd be delighted to make up numbers. May/99 |

One of the friendliest courses I have visited over the past 16 years. This extends from all staff and members. The course is a good test of all handicaps with no two holes being identical and all testing the golfers skill in all aspects of the game. A very quick drying course and excellent fairways and greens. I would suggest that any golfer take advantage of the buggies on offer as the course is long and undulating. August/00 |
