| This course was carved into the forest of Mill Valley, CA in 1919. 8 minutes past the Golden Gate Bridge, this quirky little 9-hole muni course can provide some interesting challenges. There are trees everywhere, in fact on half of the holes you tee off from a range mat surrounded by towering redwoods. Most of the fairways are uphill, so the yardage can be deceiving. In fact the fairway on Hole #1 tips at 45 degree angle to the right. The greens are in good shape, but some of the tee boxes are not. A river runs through many holes but that river hasn't had water in it for the 20 years I've been playing this course. The dried up river cavern is about 12 feet deep and highly overgrown... like an actual briar patch. Make sure you bring a good dozen balls with you to this course, even if you're a good golfer. You will lose balls. Also, there are no carts, although you can rent a hand cart if you don't have one. Prepare to get some exercise in on this hilly course. Overall, this course is a real experience for tourists. September/01 |
