Course Name Sunrise Golf Club
Location Yang Mei, Taiwan
Comments from Dave Schmertz, Olleyville, Texas, USA
This is a beautiful mountaintop course with lots of elevation changes. The layout is quite nice, although the greens are just average; same as most courses in Taiwan. The day I played it, there was a 40 mph wind blowing across the mountain. Usually the wind is about half or less that speed. The clubhoue at Sunrise is spectacular. The entry is massive with a fifty foot high vaulted ceiling supported by huge marble columns. The locker facilities are more elegant and spacious than any golf club (or athletic/social club, for that matter) I've seen anywhere in the world. Sunrise is a private club, but it's definitely one of the best courses in Taiwan. So, if you're visiting Taiwan, ask around to see if you can get on the course. You'll really en joy it. Comments from Jeff Lin, Taipei, Taiwan
The Sunrise and Ta-shee are the two best known examples of Robert Trent Jones II courses in Taiwan. The owners of both courses are very fine golfers themselves. The Sunrise is probably the tougher of the two with a higher slope rating, tighter fairways, and windier conditions. The 10th is Sunrise's signature hole. The hole measures just over four hundred yards from the back tee, but turns 90 degree to the right halfway down the fairway. The right side of the fairway is bordered by a huge pond all the way from tee to green. The hole plays downhill and can be reached in one by a long hitter.
