20 miles east of San Diego. Gary Player design with three different nines. Canyon nine was a little strange but others okay. Requires precision off tee and greens are "full of character" so bring the "A" game if you want to score. Don't know if I would go back. It was okay, but not great.

Set in a spectacular desert canyon in Jamul about 1/2 hour outside San Diego near El Cajon. There are 3 9 hole courses to choose from - all quite scenic. The courses are all very challenging and put a premium on driving. It ranks among my favorite gol f courses in California. If you're in the San Diego and can't get into Torrey Pines or don't want to pay the premium for Aviara, then Steele Canyon is your next best bet. Beware! It can get VERY hot in the summer.

Very well maintained course but don't stray from the fairways or you'll be in desert like cacti, rocks, etc. It seems each tee is elevated more than the next providing challenging golf and very scenic views.

Gorgeous setting -- a challenging but beautiful golf layout. Courses wind thru canyon with lots of elevation changes with tees, fairways & greens. Tough but fair. A real pleasure to play even if your score is not great -- due to the scenery. Staff very accommodating and helpful. April/01
