Course Reviews

Course Name Maplegate Country Club
Location Bellingham, Massachusetts, USA
Comments from Russ Kenn, E. Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA
The staff at this course is so unfriendly and not very accommodating. Their attitude is that they're doing you a favor by "letting you play" their course. The course is for people who like to hit irons off the tee. Leave your driver in the bag here.

Excellent course! I've played there each year since it opened and they add something new to the golf course each time. In fact they are a host site for the 1998 U.S.Open!!!!!

Excellent course, very challenging, well maintained. Very alert rangers.

A wonderful course given its age (only a couple of years old). Unfortunately the management is rude. So rude, I will never go back.

Maplegate is a great course, with the exception of the personnel. I played there a great number of times with clients, but after putting up with rangers and staff that thought that they were Napoleon, I took my business elsewhere. The last time I played there, the ranger was totally out of line, telling us that there was an open hole ahead. In fact, the foresome ahead of us was on the hole, and we enjoyed a six hour round while the afore mentioned foresome looked for balls. The ranger must have been tired of yelling at customers and went home, because we never saw him talk to the foresome ahead of us, who did have open holes in front of them. I wrote a letter complaining about the ranger, but received no response or apology. I now play at Cyprian Keyes, where they appreciate my business.

A very well designed course in excellent condition. I recieve lessons from the club's John Martell and they are drastically improving my game. However, the other club staff is dismal at best. The rangers seem to enjoy bullying the younger players especially into playing so fast that the game is no longer enjoyable. A foursome is expected to finish within 4 hours, 10 minutes, but when I play solo, I can hardly finish before that. The waterfall hole is a shining example of the courses great design. The course is a par 72, and 5837 yards long from the white tees. Overall the course is incredible, but thanks to the tyrannical rangers, your round may not be enjoyable.

In all my twenty years of playing the great game, I have never encountered so much rudeness from a course marshal as I have at Maplegate. In a totally obnoxious and aggressive tone, he told our group of four that we were holding up the rest of the field (just prior to teeing off the 10th). I then asked him how this could be so when the immediate group behind us had never waited for us to clear. This minor fact did not seem to register with him and the nastiness continued. It is a shame that such a nice course is staffed by someone who seems intent on alienating his customers. We also had another marshal track us for almost the entire round; even though HE was extremely polite and helpful, it was still very annoying. I shall not return. Round played 11/3/00.

I recently played a round at Maplegate and had the worst golf experience in the 30 years I've been playing this great game! The pro shop personnel were extremely rude and unpleasant. They get a good price to play there, you would think they would have some sense of customer service. I have to believe it comes from the top. Too bad because it's a very interesting course. However, because of the way my entire golfing party was treated I will not be playing there again.

The most foolish mess of a golf course I have ever seen. Would not play there if it was the last golf course in the world.

I live 1 mile from the golf course. The course itself is very nice and challenging. However, the staff could not be worse. They make you very unwelcome. If they do not like the way you tee off on the first tee, they will tell you to move up to a more forward tee. For the money they charge, about $65.00, I am going to hit from any tee I want.

The rudest golf course staff on the face of the earth! I wouldn't play this course again if they paid me.

Just played Maplegate for the last time. They charged us $67 to be hassled all the way from the register at check in until the end. You would also think they could take some of the money they are charging and find a better way to mark yardage than a colored dot on a tree. Hey Maplegate - How about taking a pointer from New England CC and put GPS on the carts with my/our money. Take some of that cash your hiding from the IRS and put it back into the course!!!

I was very nervous about playing here based on previous comments. Luckily the course management has either changed it's tune or the previous comments were from people that believe a 6 hour round is the norm. I have played here twice now, once last fall (2000) and this Spring (2001). Both time were enjoyable. This is a beautiful course that is classic NE. The staff in the pro shop were very friendly and I wished the rangers had been a little more aggressive. We had a 12:50 tee time on Sunday and got through in about 5 hours, not a country club pace, but great for a public course on a Sunday afternoon. I thought the green fees were right on target for such a quality course.

I've been there several times and I would have to say the golf course is nice, but the staff is very rude! Many times I've played and witnessed people goofing off. I even witnessed some children smoking butts in the woods. The owner is an alcoholic who would rather be busting your chops than letting you play. I was treated like junk by several greens keepers and was even pushed around by some of the rangers. You won't catch me golfing there again. New England Country Club here I come!

Nice golf course, very good layout, but a horrible staff. Very rude, obnoxious rangers that are intent on ruining your round. If you want to picked on by some bullies in a golf cart play Maplegate.

I love the layout. Tight but you can still play an errant shot. Greens are not great but OK. As far as the rangers, I find that to be a big asset as they keep the play moving. At least they make an effort to combat slow play. I would rather see the rangers out there than face a course left alone to be packed with as many players as possible who spend hours chasing double par scores on each whole without consideration to others. Slow play on many other courses I played practically made me quit the game! Maplegate brought the fun back in it for me as I know what to expect. I play early on weekends and they move along nicely. Some of the staff may not be the friendliest but others are and I don't play for smiles and grins at the clubhouse anyway.

Horrible. I would never reccomend it or play it again. The tee time attendent was one of the rudest people I have ever met. I would rather shovel rocks than play this course.

Me and three of my freinds thought we would play a round in febuary since the weather was great. We looked on the internet and found several places open. We found Maplegate Country Club to be open and we made a tee time. After I made the tee-time I thought I would read some comments about the course. After reading the awfull comments that were written I was a little nervous. I thought that maybe we should look for a different course, but my freinds said we should just see what happens. I'm glad that we didn't change our plans. We had a great time at Maplegate. The people were very freindly and no one gave us a hard time. The course was in perfect shape. It was worth every penny. I can't wait to play there again.
