Course Reviews

Course Name Koolau Golf Course
Location Oahu, Hawaii, USA
Comments from Kenneth G. Lawson, Wahiawa, Hawaii, USA
I just got finished playing Koolau or to put it into perspective, Koolau just got finished playing me. For any golfer to come this island and not play this course is a crying shame. As one of the people I was playing with today said "This course is one of the courses that will bring you back to reality real quick." The views are spectacular and the course is in fantastic shape. It has the only bent grass greens on the island. It can be a little hard to find but any effort is worth it to play this course.

Toughest course ever! My friend took a dozen balls and used the last one at the 13th hole...he was proud of it. Hit the fairway or aloha golf ball.

Think you're good? Try this one and you'll realize just how human you really are! Absolutely beautiful course and course staff extremely nice. It's one I'll play every time I go back to Hawaii.

Koolau GC is one of the most beautiful tests of golfing ability you'll find in the States: Pine Valley meets Fantasy Island. Incredible views on every hole; if it feels like you're in the middle of a rain forest, it's because YOU ARE! Some great par fours and fives requiring precise, target-style tee shots and accurate approaches; definitely not a "grip-it-and-rip-it" course. Requires almost every shot in the bag and a VERY good tee ball. Course is in some need of TLC, most notably the bunkers. Greens held iron shots, and were smooth and quick, with subtle breaks to make things interesting. Number 18 has to be one of America's toughest par fours; makes number 8 at Pebble Beach look easy. Carts are mandatory; ride-alongs allowed at @ $20/person. American Golf now manages the course; members of other American Golf courses pay reduced rates. The slope rating doesn't lie - play the tees that fit your handicap. Don't even THINK about the blue tees unless you are a single-digit player! See you on the course!

Beautiful! You are going to love the finishing hole (by the time you reach 18 you are out of balls, so you will drive the hole with your jaw gaping open in awe how any human being can actually get better than a bogey). Anyhow, my favorite course in the U.S. and I play it every time I'm on the island. Breathtaking!
