Designer Pete Dye's Eagle Creek is the gem of Indianapolis' many well established Municipal Golf Courses. When Mayor Steven Goldsmith turned over the management of all the city's courses to private business as a part of thr privatization of city governme nt, Eagle creek was returned to it's glorious, original state by it's current management after several years of floundering under the uninspired management of city employees. Today, you'll find the course in excellent condition with long, tree lined fairw ays and well-manicured greens. The first hole is a dramatic challenge for even experienced golfers. The 341 yard par 4 (from the white tee - 368 from the gold) is an elevated tee with trouble in front (creek), in the middle (ornamental flowers & shrubs w ith a 50' diameter decorative railroad tie "wagon wheel" structure), and to both sides (forest). The green is hidden below a hill up and to the right. A long, straight tee shot will reward you with a good opportunity for a par, but it better be straight! The course is extremely popular with area golfers, so, be sure to get a tee time very early (pro shop opens at 6:30 a.m.) one week before your intended visit. Also be aware that numerous tournaments are held at Eagle Creek, so weekends can be difficult to book. I love this course!
