| This Links course is situated on the rolling hills of the Sonoma Coast north of San Francisco and the Bay Area about 80 miles. Undulating greens and sloping lies offer a test to the all handicaps and pros. The #3 double dogleg par 5 is one of the most cha llenging holes I have ever played. A tempting tee shot could put you in eagle territory. However few make this seemingly easy way out. The narrow fairway can be fast in the midday or the afternoon winds can knock down the longest drives. A truly fun hole. The #16 par 4 is another challenge. To reach the fairway you must carry a marsh. The fairway doglegs left and your drive can carry 210 to 300. The difficulty lies in deciding your target. Distances are deceiving with no trees or tall markers to allow cor rect perceptions. Winds also come into play as you are facing the ocean and sand dunes. This is their signature hole. A beautifully kept course and a deal for Northern California golfers at about $45 on weekdays and $65 on weekends. Check it out. |

What was a great course (when it was nine holes), was ruined when they added the "front" nine some years ago. This new nine is almost unplayable in some parts. The "old" setup, with nine holes and two different sets of tee boxes was a much better design. The added bonus was that you got to play the final three holes twice. These are three of the best holes that I have ever played. Play the back nine and forget the front. You'll be much happier. November/2000 |
