Course Reviews

Course Name Alice Springs Golf Club
Location Northern Territory, Australia
Comments from Bill Towers, Australia
Alice Springs is in desert country and as such water is in short supply, however, there are two holes where water does come into play. The greens are immaculate and true. The fairways are lush and reward good play. Alice Springs is rated among the top 'D esert Courses' in the World, and has a PGA event annually. Also the club caters for the Masters Games every second year (even years) in October.
The Alice Springs Golf Club is the proud owner of Peter Thompson designed championship course built in 1985. The nearest sand green is 500 kilometres away! The course winds its way through the foothills of the MacDonnell Ranges which are part of the "cate rpillar dreaming" of the local Aboriginal People. Care was taken in the design of the course to ensure no infringement on sacred sites.
It is a true desert course with few trees, but don't let this lull you into a false sense of security. I suggest that you bring and old club and include it in your bag as a 'Rock Iron'. If you consistently miss the lush green fairways it will get a lot of use. Only two fairways run parallel so errant shots, left or right are punished. The greens are generous, true and can be very fast. In short the course will provide of true test of your golfing ability, while you marvel at the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges which are part and can be seen from most holes.
