Hidden Gem close to Ottawa

This is a really great course. Very often I don’t want to commit to 4-5 hours playing golf and the 9 hole (2 hours) option is a great alternative.Walking 18 holes will give you an enjoyable workout. In a beautiful setting this course is a real challenge with lots of hills and interesting slopes on various greens. Friendly staff and easy access make it a truly pleasurable experience.

Larrimac Is Fine

Just a short drive from downtown Gatineau and Ottawa, Larrimac is like going to the cottage in the summer.
In fact, at many of the holes there are Muskoka chairs to drink in the beautiful scenery and rest. During the last week of September and the first week of Ottawa when the fall colours are at their height, there are few more beautiful places in the world.
The greens are probably the best-kept in the area. The overall tending of the course is very good.
The members are very well-behaved and friendly.
Don't be put off by the nine holes. If you want 18, go around again. The course is challenging.
If you are looking for a flat, easy golf course, well Larrimac is not flat ... in fact it's a bit like going to the circus.
A number of tees are elevated so big hitters will feel like really big hitters and little hitters will feel big.
The greens at the top of valleys are very much a challenge. But the fairways, for the most part, are forgiving.
This is not an easy course but the challenge is interesting. Beginners can play it too without feeling over-matched.
It's a fun day on the cusp of the wilderness. This year I've seen three big deer on a fairway. A bald eagle flying up the first hole. A doe with two fawns (it felt like we were in a Disney movie). A number of pilated woodpeckers (the big ones) and a rather fast-moving raccoon.
The view from the screened-in porch is wonderful.
I recommend it highly.

Holes 4,5 make for a nice combination.

The rolling hills and surrounding trees make for a pleasant walk, especially during the Fall colours. The course is in nice shape given the lack of chemicals in use.

2015 Season will be great at Larrimac

I admit to being biased as I am a member of Larrimac. It is one of the most interesting and challenging courses I have played and I have played golf all over North America. Yesterday's early season round showed the course to be greening up nicely. It was already in "good" condition. IN a week or two the grounds superintendent will have it to the usual "excellent" condition. Do not let the 9 holes and short total yardage fool you. This course plays to its full slope and course rating.

I dare anyone to take the Larrimac Challenge. Par holes 3 through 6 in row and you can call that an accomplishment. Number 3 is an extremely uphill/side hill par 3 with a poor angle to get at the green off the tee. Holes 4 and 5 are the valley holes with uphill approach shots that are usually lengthy if you have managed to avoid the creek. Then number 6 is a very tight dogleg right par 4 where you rarely are within 30 yards for your second shot.

Always a joy to play.
