Pass the scenic back nine

You probably all heard that this is not a well maintained golf course. I knew that but scenic and challenging back 9 intrigued me. Unfortunately, the course condition was worse. No clear signage, bumpy cart path, the worst of all was one of tee box has no grass that we had to tee off from dirt.

Staff are friendly so you do get a good customer service. If you are still wiling to try, make sure to bring a bug spray.

Some holes on the back nine are quite challenging!

The original nine holes are gradually improving in maintenance. The club has spent some money on improving the cart paths on the back (new) nine. However there is still room for improvement. I expect the Club will continue to improve as they plow money back into the course.

Good little quick course

This course would be classified as a discount course. It is not the best maintained course but it is a fun course to get out and play a quick round. Would be great for beginners to come play.

Disappoinment !!

I went not expecting the highest caliber but still was very, very disappointed. Greens extremely small and slow, fairways undefined and rough (in every way), layout is plain strange and hap-hazard, one I could not find the blue tees, others a pro would have trouble hitting, 17th tee I could not see fairway from blue tees and hit in direction I thought would be OK and got lucky. Cart paths (so you know what I'm referring to) are worth going for just so you will believe what I am describing. I have never anywhere in Canada or abroad seen cart paths that were anywhere near this bad, so awful, (angles, potholes, gaping holes, rocks/boulders, poor signage-got lost and backtracked a few times), I needed a chiropractor after the paths and the rough fairways. Shaken, not stirred was the order of the day on the cart. Suffice it to say I am never coming back, though the lady in shop was pleasant. Any price would be too high for me for this course. Believe it or not, I have never written a review like this before, I hate to speak badly about a course, but it's worth saving someone else the disappointment I felt for both the money and the time, when I could have gone elsewhere and received far better value for money and an enjoyable experience without need of chiropractor.

I just played there on the weekend and thought it was a great course. I also enjoyed the ability to drive along the fairway as it made the pace of play quicker. It's a course I'd recommend.

small slow greens

An interesting course with a lot of easy holes and some spectacular tee shots .the cart paths were in poor condition but the course was reasonably well cared for. The greens are often tiny so good aim is required to score well. In many ways it compares well with other courses in the area that cost twice as much or more. Don't be fooled by the total lack of curb appeal ,the club house is tacky and what is visible from the road looks like a farm field but just over the hill is a lovely course. We will definitely play here again and it will likely become our first choice for when we're at our cottage.

Bring lots of balls.

Playing this course for the first time was difficult. Poor signage and scorecard map made it easy to get lost. Some holes were ridiculously easy, others incredibly hard. Front nine was almost all in one wide open field, not too impressive. The back nine has the potential to be great but it needs some work. Lots of elevated tees, narrow fairways, and bugs. It seems like they are having a hard time deciding whether to be a cheap friendly family course, or a professional expensive one, but ultimately they haven't succeeded at being either.

Looks can be deceiving!

A good mix of easy, challenging, and very challenging holes. If you can't control your driver, it would be best to leave it in the trunk. Be sure to bring a few extra sleeves of balls too. There are some incredibly beautiful and scenic holes from 11 - 17.
I will be back!! Better prepared too ...

Few people on course. Well maintained fairways and greens. Will return

Deer Run is a moderately priced golf course compared to the others in the area with few golfers at anyone time on the course. We hadn't played the course in many years when it was more of a cow pasture. They've really improved the first nine holes and added a great back nine. The fairways and rough are of similar grasses with the fairways well cut to distinguish the two. The small greens are cut short and are quick with some undulations. The back nine has some spectacular holes with challenging tee shots from the whites and blues. The club house is nothing to write about except the staff is very friendly and willing to help.

A Great Value

The course is very different front and back. The front is the oldest and is much easier. The back 9 is newer. From the back 2 tee boxes some holes are long with a blind shot over brush or water. For an average golfer the yellow tees are more reasonable on the back. The course is well laid out from green to tee but a cart is a very good idea. Staff is friendly and accomodating.

Fun and challenging

This may not be a PGA championship course, it may not even be the nicest course in the area, but what Deer Run offers its golfers is a unique experience for golf. First off, yes this course could be better, but I can pay $120 for 18 and a cart to go to a better course, this course offers a $40 green fee for 18 and a cart anytime, 7 days a week. That 40 bucks gets you a fun and challenging golfing experience. The back nine of this course is like none other, bring your camera, the scenery is stunning, and there's a good chance of seeing some awesome wildlife. This course does not adhere to the standard golf stigma of dress code and what not (like that makes you a better golfer or something) so, with that being said, this course is a great starter course for the average golfer who does not want to spend $150 for a golf outfit. Be prepared to lose some balls, and maybe find a few, but hey, you're trying to keep it on the fairway anyhow. This is a favorite course for my wife, its inexpensive which is nice because she is not a hardcore golfer but she enjoys getting out and hanging out with me. So in closing, don't expect Pebble Beach at these prices, but what you can expect is a fun time, a great crew in the clubhouse, and definitely a few good laughs.

Poor condition

Course needs a lot of work.Kart paths need a lot of work.Fairways are not cut tightly.Grass is like your front lawn-not a golf course fairway Greens are very small. They were in good condition but they needed to be cut and rolled. They are very, very slow. The tee off deck on the back nine are in tearable shape-needs lots of work.If owner would spend some money then this course might have O.K value
