Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Canada (2023 #19)
Reviews
Red Crest
was a great day and course. Very interesting and for November great conditions. Some long drives to place and set up on 2nd shots. Lots of length, bends, and undulations.
I will definitely be going back.
Excellent condition
Fairway, green condition is excellent!
Fun Course
Played on a windy and cool late October day, a bit of rain as well so it was challenging. Not many people on the course so the we basically play at any pace we wanted to. The staff was very friendly. We had a cart with the Hot Deal. However, the course is flat, definitely walkable. The condition of the fairways were still good and the greens were fast and true, it got slower later with the rain. We played from the whites and its not that long even the yardage on the score card says 6000 or so. Only a few holes make the yardage longer. The layout was nice, there are few holes where you have lateral water which I don't find too many in playing public courses in the GTA. Overall great experience.
good and challenging course
Marshall would push some of team back to the pacing. Anyway, it is good course for coming back again.
Excellent Challenge for low-mid handicappers on an very nice Course
Conditions are very good, amazing even, considering the traffic the course gets.
The course itself is very well laid out, with plenty of challenging but fair holes. The greens are moderately fast, and true. It would be nice if everybody fixed their ball marks, and divots, but the greens crews do their best to control the damage.
Carts are brand new, and with GPS that actually works. It monitors pace and will shut the cart off if you go where you're not supposed to.
It would be difficult to find a course where the staff are more efficient, knowledgeable and courteous.
The Future: I hope that the new management, in its quest to impress new ownership, doesn't compromise the integrity of the golf course (and its experience) via "nickel & dime" cost cutting.
Challenges:
Bunkers: Lots of bunkers. Sand is moderately coarse, but uniform throughout all holes.
Water: Lots and lots of water, and on most holes. Water is ... well, water. Avoid it.
Rough: Primary rough sits at about 4 inches, and is tricky at best. Secondary rough - don't go in there - it's jungle.
Beer: At these prices are you kidding? Stephen Harper told us that ridiculous alcohol prices are there to teach us "social responsibility"..... he should pay nine bucks for a beer.
RedCrest Review
The course was in great shape considering the hot weather we are having and very little rain. The greens were in wonderful shape and receptive except for a couple of the greens, where half the green was aerated. This is not an overly long course, but accuracy is must. Look forward to playing RedCrest again in the very near future.

I'll be back, well worth the trip
really enjoyed everything about the course. I will definitely come back. The blue tees were perfect yardage and the course was in excellent condition. Could use a little more sand in the bunkers though.

Red Crest - Do not miss playing there
This is an excellent laid out course. It makes you bring the best out of you. You will have to use all your clubs. Your second shot is the one that counts. The staff is there to make your play enjoyable and memorable. Excellent pace as the starter does not jam all the players.
Good course, but poor groundkeeping
Booked a round on a day that was expected to be rainy. It ended up being sunny outside. As people we expecting rain the course was very empty and we were able to play in 3.5 hours without ever seeing anybody in front of us.
The course was fun and challenging BUT the grass was not as green as other courses and had a lot of yellow patches.
The fairways were cut, but the grounds were not kept to what I would consider $100+ course levels. There was not always a nice outline for the fairways, and often it just blended into the rough or hazards. This is the result of lazy grounds staff who rush through their morning routines. To give credit, they likely cut the grass in the rain and just wanted to get out of there.
There was no food available at the half-way house other than some sandwhiches (likely closed because there weren't a lot of people on the course). Additionally, there was no staff coming around on the food-cart.
Cardinal has a decent practice facility, but the Redcrest course isn't located at the same facility (it is a few blocks North on Keele) and there is no proper driving range unless you warm up and then drive down to Redcrest.
The golf carts have a nice GPS system, but that system is used to warn drivers of holes that are cart-path only or 90-degree rules. The system will disable your cart if you go to far off the path on those holes. It is a novel idea, but it has quirks and we find ourselves in a locked cart when we were driving on the rough anywhere near another hole as it thought we were either too close to a green or on the rough for another hole that was cart-path only.
Course itself provides for a wide variety of club selection, but I found myself hitting my approach shots on the par-4s with wedges rather than my shorter irons. This was because of the short length of the course.
I gave it a good rating mostly because we got a hot deal and played it for just over $50 a person. I would not play this course for the normal rates as there are better options available.
Great link course
Friendly staff and excellent pace.
One of the great public courses in GTA
Really fantastic round of Golf one can have at Redcrest. Many holes are not that far and with a medium driving distance of approx 220- to 240 yards, I found the course was perfect for me even from the back tees. Hole 10 plays really long and if you have a wind on your face it makes it even more difficult.
I had a great Time.
Nice Course-Excellent Hot Deal
RedCrest is about a 40 minute drive from midtown Toronto. Driving directions (and address) to the course refers to the original Cardinal courses (2740 Davis Dr) and NOT off the Keele St entrance. I told the Pro Shop that their website needs to be adjusted. As of today, not done.
Also, the RedCrest course is normally rated at $80+ (taxes and fees incl.) per game unless, you can get the HotDeal I received for $50. Golf courses at this rate should have a driving range available to their guests. There is only a single (unkempt) driving cage near the club house. The other Cardinal (East and West) courses have a very nice driving range on site. RedCrest management should have a shuttle between the new RedCrest and the driving range.
The ProShop and restaurant is below-average. The ProShop at the East/West courses is significantly larger than RedCrest. The restaurant/19-Hole amenities are below what I expected. BTW, there was no on-course services provided. Not sure why.
The course, however was very enjoyable. We started on the back-9. As this was mid-May and the weather in the area has been colder/cooler than usual, a lot of the early Spring flowers and tree growth were slow to emerge. Wind plays a factor on this course as much of the course is vulnerable to wind.
Golf carts are equipped with advanced GPS direction and enhanced video display. The cart paths meander to marsh land and offer golfers some beautiful sites. I look forward to playing here in mid-Summer to experience the full benefits of the view.
Missed the boat
Could have done so much more with property greens look fast but are slow .
Terrible par 3 (boring ) all the same
Wonky course
Redcreast
Good condition. Nice greens, Somewhat quirky layout. Number 10 is a terrible layout.
