Course is incredible condition with true running greens

The course has seen incredible improvements throughout the 2021 season with the greatest difference being the condition and play of the greens. True rolling and fast, the best condition this course has ever been in.

A nice walk in the park

The Sturgeon Valley Golf Club is a parkland-style course, with many of the holes straight away and tree-lined. There are some elevation changes, dips and valleys and a few doglegs to make it interesting and more challenging. Most tee boxes are elevated to give you some confidence on the tee and a good view of where you need to aim. Even though the fairways are tree-lined they are for the most part trimmed up high enough and spaced out enough to give you a shot out and back to the fairway. They have several ponds and fairway bunkers that come into play. The greens are large and mostly flat but with subtle breaks to keep you second-guessing your reads. The greens are well bunkered but are shallow enough that you can putt out of most if your sand game is not up to par. It is not a long course with the back tees reaching 6,724 and could be considered a bombers paradise because of the wide fairways and minimal trouble. It is a fun course as it is walkable, and gives you plenty of birdie opportunities. It is a good balance of challenge for the best players and friendly to the ladies and high handicappers. The clubhouse is spacious if not a little generic and the food is good. They have an excellent practice facility with matt driving range, a chipping green and a putting green.

It was tough getting a public tee-time here, probably due to the limited tee-times during the Covid-19 pandemic, they maybe reserving most of their tee-times for their members. The course itself is in good condition. The tee boxes and fairways were in good condition, the greens crew was out cutting the fast-growing rough. Most of the greens are in good condition, and the pace was quick. A few of them had recently been aerated and looked spotted but rolled okay.

Well Maintained Gem

Despite the unusually wet weather of late, the course is in beautiful shape. The clubhouse food is ok, but nothing to write home about. The beverage cart was circulating around the course regularly. The staff is friendly.
