Founded in 1891, Royal Melbourne, is the only facility outside the United States to have two courses regularly ranked among the top 100 in the world. The East Course was designed by Alex Russell, a student of Alister MacKenzie, in 1930-31, and opened for play the following year. It features lightning fast greens, gaping bunkers and a combination of short and long par-4 holes. An abundance of eucalyptus and tea trees give the course a sort of country flavor.
