A beauty on the Bellarine Peninsula
Most Americans don't get to the Bellarine Peninsula because they're too busy playing golf in the Sandbelt or driving by on the Great Ocean Road. This impressive 45-hole golf facility is reason to stop.
The Beach Course is a regular host of the Victoria Open, and a new short course should help grow junior golf at the club. The course wanders through housing before mingling with the linksland in the local marshes. The most dynamic hole might be its shortest - the 16th where golfers hit the green or fall off into surrounding trouble. Studio Lodges and 2 Bedroom Suites offer stay and plays.
Absolutely Stunning course with possibly the only postage stamp par 3 in Victoria
Host of the Victorian Open, this course is held in veg high regard by Victorian Golfers. Set on the Bellarine peninsula near Geelong, it’s truly worth a day trip out.
The course combines a links layout with tightish fairways that demand accuracy off the tee. The course was in wonderful condition and required one to think their way around the course.
The most memorable holes were:
- The long par 5 11th that goes up the hill.
- The short par 4 5th that is drivable in the right conditions. Heaven forbid playing against a howling gale!
- The par 5 6th that starts on high and takes you through some marsh land to a green hidden behind tufty mounds.
- And most of all the 125yd 16th Postage stamp par 3. Arguably the only proper hole of it’s type in Victoria. The green is perched at the highest point of the course and offers wonderful views. There is a bunker and small run off area to the left. Scrub everywhere else. Aim for the middle of the green, and hope there is no wind when you play there!
Greens are quick, firm and true. Bring your A game.
