And just because Gold is used for Greg Norman's annual "Shootout" on the PGA Tour, doesn't mean it's the best course to play. It just depends on what your game is all about. If you like to think your way around and be challenged by some tight, tricky placements, then Black might be your best bet. Our advice: Play them both.

The 6,451-yard layout at East Bay Golf Club in Largo, Florida might not seem daunting at first, but don't let the size fool you. Most holes make you keep the driver in the bag, and, if you can't curve you tee shots, you're in for a long day. There is water on 14 holes, and it comes into play on each of them. Even at its short length, East Bay plays as tough as any club in the Tampa Bay area.

World Woods Golf Club's location is remote, and its entrance is humble. But the golf, as the name implies, is nothing short of world class. Bobby Weed has done some fine work in northeast Florida. Surprisingly, some of Weed's best holes can be found on a relatively unknown place south of Jacksonville called The Golf Club at Fleming Island, a residential course that's popular with the locals. Don't let its residential setting scare you -- there aren't many houses to detract from its natural setting among the pines and swamps. In fact, some might even argue Fleming Island is the best of his three, more well known (and more expensive) Florida courses.

Don't bother bringing five different lob wedges to the 7,230-yard Las Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Built in 1992 as the second course at the resort, Las Colinas is longer than Mission Inn's El Campeon Course, but locals say it's the most playable. Bring the big sticks, and be prepared to bomb away.

Yes, Waldorf Astoria Golf Club is linked to the grand Waldorf Astoria Orlando resort with its ties to the legendary and elegant hotel in New York City. But that's where tradition ends and a challenging golfer's test begins. It would be safe to say playing Waldorf Astoria Golf Club from the tips, all 7,108 yards, is the biggest golf test in and around Orlando.

In an area where golf courses often cater to tourists with easy hole locations, Legacy Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., provides a stiff test. It may not be the easiest golf course to maneuver around, but golfers will definitely find it in excellent shape, Jeff Berlinicke writes. Most people don't come to the Florida Keys to play golf, but Key West Golf Club will keep you interested. The Rees Jones design, which is the southernmost golf course in the continental United States, is a nice way to spend at least one day of your vacation.
