The former Royal Amelia is now known as Amelia River Golf Club and, with the exception of a ritzy, new clubhouse, it hasn't changed much, which is good. It was always a popular venue because of its natural setting; while some holes border the Fernandina Beach municipal airport, much of the course plays through the beautiful flora and fauna of Amelia Island, through live oaks, sabal palms, wax myrtle and pines.

The Club at Hidden Creek in Navarre, Fla. is a semi-private golf facility that opened in 1988 and has hosted qualifying rounds for the U.S. Open, as well as earning a 4 1/2 star rating from Golf Digest. It's a fairly open layout, with scattered pines and plenty of room off the tee.

Marcus Pointe Golf Club in Pensacola is one of those courses with a split personality. The front nine is pleasant enough, winding leisurely through a neighborhood with some moderately testy holes. What you don't know if you've never played the course before is that it's simply a tease.

The Lagoon Course at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club will test your shot-making skills and short game. It is beautifully bunkered and water is almost literally everywhere, sometimes in places you might not expect it. It requires precision and thought.
