BTW, I had credentials as a reporter from a traditional newspaper at that US Women's Open. The blog was
quashed not by the LPGA, but by...our own! (Gasp!)
The LPGA especially is hyper-sensitive about whom they credential. A plain ol' blogger will not get credentials. Media personnel must be on assignment. I had this discussion with Connie Wilson of the LPGA this past spring. She promised to get back to me by telephone to discuss the issue further, but has repeatedly failed to respond to any communication from me. Bottom Line: LPGA still in the communications darkages.

It should be noted, of course, that Chris Baldwin was credentialed by the LPGA Tour as a WorldGolf.com staff member on assignment to provide daily bylined coverage for this publication. Chris' blog postings - presumably like those of Courier-Journal reporter Brian Bennett - were simply extra coverage he was able to offer readers in between deadlines. Hats off to the LPGA, USGA, PGA of America and other major golf organizations for being more forward thinking than the NCAA's baseball committee when it comes to media coverage in the Internet Age.
You know, I offered to blog from the U.S. Women's Open in 2004, and was told by the managing WorldGolf.com editor at the time, "No thanks. No one wants to read about tournaments as they happen." Sigh...

You'll notice that the guy is no longer with us at WorldGolf.com.
