On an episode of the groundbreaking reality show “Living Lohan,” mother Dina Lohan looked over at daughter Ali, who was being interviewed by a TV reporter. As her young daughter was interviewed, Dina Lohan told the reality show cameras that “this is the first time we’ve allowed TV cameras into this house.” And yes, she was speaking of the interviewer. The fact that she had reality show camera crews trolling about her home was completely missed somehow.
Such is the life of many reality TV stars - their grip on actual “reality” isn’t as tight as one would hope. Which makes Charles Barkley the perfect reality show star. And he could soon be showcasing his horrific swing and massive personality in a new Golf Channel reality show with Hank Haney.
According to the Hollywood Reporter:
Charles Barkley could be getting some golfing tips via a project in development at Golf Channel.
A network rep confirmed that the channel is developing a project eyed for 2009 that would feature famed golf instructor Hank Haney, who has coached Tiger Woods on his swing, giving the former NBA star and current TNT basketball analyst tips on his own golf game; further details were not available.
Haney also will be featured in Golf Channel’s new reality series “School of Golf: Hilton Head Island,” premiering Sept. 2.
Apparently for Barkley, the chance to be seen by literally dozens of golf fans in a reality show was too much of a temptation. After all, Barkley announced his “retirement” from golf in an exclusive BadGolfer.com interview with Chris Baldwin. Here’s what Barkley had to say then:
“I’ve retired from golf. It just got too frustrating. I don’t play anymore.”
“I’ll play with Tiger (Woods) and Michael (Jordan). I’m not going to stop playing with my friends. I’ll hit it around with Tiger and Michael. Not in front of other people, though.”
“It’s a don’t-hit-no-more-people retirement. I get in those celebrity tournaments and I’m hitting some old lady in the crowd. I’m rich, man. I can’t be hitting people. It’s a liability issue. Especially with all these white people in the crowd at golf tournaments. I can see the headlines: ‘Charles Barkley kills white dude with a golf ball.’ I don’t need to be looking for my Al Cowlings. [Fellow TNT studio analyst] Kenny Smith and I aren’t that close.”
Well, so much for Barkley saving us the nightmarish visage that is his golf swing as it now appears white people everywhere are at risk. And, if you’ve seen Barkley golf, it’s pretty safe to say that all other races, nationalities and even species are in grave danger.
When it’s all said and done, Barkley’s connection to reality appears to be on par with Dina Lohan’s. He’s a man that just can’t resist a camera. Of course, his reality show will be roughly 10,000 times more watchable and entertaining than the “Lohan” dreck, so it seems sporting to give Sir Charles a pass on this one. After all, Charles Barkley’s reality is far different than the average human’s.
