Barack Obama can be President by visiting MyrtleBeachGolf.com

Monday August 11, 2008 | 10:44:13 am 228 words, 8930 views

Yesterday on ABC, Cokie Roberts pointed to yet another sign of Barack Obama’s rampant elitism - he vacationed in the exotic locale of Hawaii, rather than Myrtle Beach.

I know his grandmother lives in Hawaii and I know Hawaii is a state, but it has the look of him going off to some sort of foreign, exotic place. He should be at Myrtle Beach and if he’s going to take a vacation at this time. I just think this is not the time to do that.

Yes, Obama can’t help but look like a high-flying elitist by spending his vacation in Hawaii, regardless of the fact that he was born there and that his grandmother lives there. And the fact that, you know, Hawaii is one of the 50 states.

When real Americans take vacations, they go to Myrtle Beach. That’s why we’d like to let the Obama Campaign know about MyrtleBeachGolf.com. There they can find amazing deals throughout the Grand Strand that combine luxurious (but not elite) lodging, as well as opportunities to play golf on some of the most impressive golf courses in the non-elite Continental U.S.

And while they are making arrangements to send Sen. Obama to Myrtle Beach, they need to get him to switch sports. Basketball is for elites, after all. Real Americans, and real American Presidents play golf. In Myrtle Beach.

Cokie,

Not only did Obama already visit Myrtle Beach this year for the Democratic debates, the island of Kauai's golf courses, like Princeville, Kauai Lagoons and Poipu Bay are actually cheaper than some of Myrtle Beach's best golf courses - and many would argue better too.

Also, Hawaii's tropical air is probably more comfortable to golf on than Myrtle Beach's current August heat.

Obama is not elitist. He is just a smart vacationer.

Obama is an elitist, but not because of this. Of course, you leftist nimrods wouldn't understand why he is an elitist because you lack discernment.

This would be funny if it weren't so sad and pathetic. Trying to paint an opponent as an elitist is an old, worn out GOP trick. And actually, it shows a little desperation on the GOP's part to come up with an angle on Obama.

But this also shows how sad and pathetic mainstream media has become when they so easily pick up on these silly thinly veiled talking points put out by the right wing lie machine and run with them.

And trying to call Obama an elitist, considering his upbringing and the fact he was raised mostly by his grandparents, in the face of the fact that McCain is the son of 4 star Admiral is laughable.

And like Bill mentioned, and I think we talked about at his other blog, Basketball is a blue collar sport. And you don't get the kind of jump shot Obama has spending your youth yachting, playing polo, and hitting a little white golf ball all over exclusive white only golf courses.

But, you know, this silly, inane drivel put out by Rove and other such miscreants works. People like Judge Smails above and Cokie Roberts buy into this brain dead retarded nonsense.

dgun,

You brought up an excellent point about Barack's jump shot. He learned it while on the farm in Kansas, but he could just as well have cut his teeth on the mean streets of any Democratically-run big city ghetto.

You know, several mainstream media people have mused about Obama's lack of qualification to be President. They just may be right about that.

But with a jump shot like that, he is eminently qualified to be the basketball coach at one of those ghetto highschools. I wonder why he didn't use his talent for roundball, the ultimate peasant sport, when he was performing all those miracles for the poor of Chicago as a community organizer?

Yup. McCain's graduation in the bottom 2% of his Naval Academy class (around 5th from the bottom out of 800 midshipmen) is a great qualification. If his elitist father hadn't been an Admiral, McSame may well have been kicked out. Then what? Not even a jump shot to fall back on...Oh, yes. I forgot the option of having an affair with a millionaire heiress, who could bankroll his political career (after he dumped his first wife for her). He's an operator, all right. Perfect qualification to become the next Corruptor in Chief.

Alex said: "You know, several mainstream media people have mused about Obama's lack of qualification to be President."

Which is a perfectly fair and legitimate debate to have, Alex. Because Lord knows we don't want another unqualified President, after the disastrous consequences of having one for the last 7 1/2 years. To bad, however, that all we can talk about so far in this election is Paris Hilton and such nonsense, thanks to the usual suspects of idiot pundits on the Republican side of the ball.

As to Obama coaching a High School basketball team, although this is a perfectly honest and decent way to make a living, I would think a graduate of Harvard Law School would have more lucrative job prospects.

Maybe the criticism of Obama as an elitist is grounded in the fact that he is a graduate of Columbia and Harvard. But the people making that faulty assumption are confusing 'merit' with 'privilege'.

dgun,

I agree that a graduate of Coumbia and Harvard should be able to acquire some very lucrative job offers. What were some of the excellent jobs that were offered to Barack and by whom?

Kiel,

Your contempt for the US Armed Forces and all its members, both past and present, has been well-documented. You are entitled to your opinions. You can have them.

But you ignorance of the military in general and the service academies in particular is abysmal.

No one can become a jet pilot in the Navy unless he is eminently qualified. That's NO ONE.

Since you find John McCain to be so distasteful, my advice to you is don't vote for the man.

But to hurl that sort of invective and venom at a man who served his country honorably and who did a five-year stint as a POW in a Communist hellhole is unconscionable, even for you.

It only matters if you disagree. Since you agree, that's really a dead avenue of discussion.

The point is Alex, the political strategy of trying to paint Obama as an elitist or someone who got where he is by privilege is DOA considering that McCain is the son of a 4 star Admiral.

Personally, I don't have near the animosity that some have towards McCain for selling out and kissing Bush's and the right wing fundamentalists' ass for the purpose of consolidating a base and making a strong run in 08'. Political reality, IMO.

But at the same time, he shouldn't get a free pass. And that seems to be about what the mainstream media is planning. So far they have treated him with kid gloves.

The Obama campaign is too nice to McCain. He did not serve admirably in Vietnam. Out of hundreds of POWs he was one of a handful who violated the Military Code of Conduct, giving much more than his name, rank, serial number, and date of birth. He admits trading military information for hospital treatment. He further admits interviews broadcast on Communist radio calling US soldiers pirates and war criminals. There were at least 22 of those.
He dumped his faithful but disfigured wife. He committed tax fraud for the same things now giving Alaska's senior senator Stevens legal trouble. He cost Americans $billions by delaying prosecution of the Keating scandal.
In another vein, he cannot even correctly remember the history of events in recent Iraq news, such as the origins of the Anbar awakening.
This man does not put country ahead of his own agenda, was a school failure, a disaster as a pilot, and does not correctly understand foreign affairs such as the Iraq war. He has no business becoming president of the USA.

Predicting the next person who will need a payday loan, or who is going to win the lottery is as tricky as predicting the future. Most often, fortune telling is bunk. A prediction that is specific has about a 50/50 shot at best, and if you make a vague enough prediction, then you'll eventually always be right. There were a lot of predictions about 2008 – and a lot of them came up short. Oil prices plummeted like a rock, and it turns out that Barack Obama will be starting a new job on Jan 20th, as the next President of the United States. 2008 was one tricky year, and 2009 ought to be some fun as well.
