Tiger Woods: Will his body end up being greatest foe?

Monday June 23, 2008 | 14:00:44 214 words, 5410 views

Now that Tiger Woods has completed the epic, win-the-U.S.Open-on-a-bum-knee trick and has had to announced that he’ll be done for the season, I think now is a moment for reflection. Now is a moment to quote a great man:

This is in no way meant to denigrate Tiger or his dedication to being the best athlete he can possibly be. But the fact is this: As good as Woods’ chances are of breaking Jack Nicklaus’ all-time record for major victories, the odds are just as good, if not better, that his body and mind will break down long before he gets a chance to break the one record he most covets.

Wrote I, on May 20, 2008 for World Golf Weekly Magazine.

Once again, my abilities to prognosticate have been verified. It truly borders on psychic how I am able to see the future of golf. I was the first to point this out, by the way (Editor’s note: Except for Johnny Miller - who you quoted - and about 1,000 other writers).

So will Tiger Woods break down physically and/or mentally before his chase to Jack Nicklaus’ majors streak comes to fruition with a No. 20? That remains to be seen, but after watching Tiger’s amazing U.S. Open performance, I wouldn’t bet on it.

If you think Tiger is done you are sadly mistakin.
His temendous work out ethic will be applicable to his his physical therapy after surgury. He will be coming back with a vengance. He may have to modify his swing which he has already proven he can do. He doesn't have to rip and drive the ball 340 yards plus every time. He has all the shots of of golf plus pressure putting.

I agree with Charlie's comments that Tiger has enough skill and tricks that he doesn't have to hit it 340 + yards off the tee. In fact, what I don't understand is just how he did that in the US Open, practically came out of his shoes on some shot, with all the pain and injuries he was inflicted with. I have a bad leg that gives out on me, so there is no way I could even think about playing golf the way he does. He seemed to be in serious pain the last day of the Open but didn't appear to flinch on the playoff round with Rocco, although I find that difficult to comprehend if he had that many injuries. I think he should take time off to make sure he is healed before returning to the tour, because if he doesn't his career playing days may be prematurely short lived. Good luck Tiger, we all love and admire you but do take it easy and take more care of yourself and not risk permanent injury.

Tiger's knee will be perfect when he comes back but he will start tearing it apart again if he keeps working on CRAP that his coach has him doing. SIMPLE PHYSICS, He is not unwinding onto his knee as he learned to do as a kid, he is turning and rotating on it. It is horrifying how little these guys understand about the swing.
