Will Dot Wong join Annika Sorenstam, Justine Henin in retirement?

Wednesday May 14, 2008 | 23:04:05 330 words, 5649 views

On consecutive days, two of the world’s top female athletes have decided to call it quits. First, Annika Sorenstam announced that 2008 would be her final year, and today world No. 1 women’s tennis player Justine Henin announced her tennis playing days are over.

Now, as most everyone is aware, things like this tend to happen in threes. That is why I am making a formal request to one of WorldGolf.com’s bloggers - it is time for Dot Wong to retire.

Wong, who long ago stole Jennifer Mario’s title as WorldGolf.com’s No. 1 female blogger, has achieved all she will ever achieve in the world of golf blogging. She has no opinions, but merely reports daily golf news. That hasn’t stopped her from being the one blogger on staff to receive endless invites to radio shows, as well as being offered a week in a Lexus at a recent PGA Tour event. Dot declined for reasons unknown, and for the most part busies herself with paperwork around the WorldGolf.com offices.

This is nothing at all against Dot. You couldn’t invent a nicer girl than her. She’s always smiling, and always ready to do whatever is necessary for the team. But I believe that as a golf blogger she has peaked. It is nothing but downhill for her now.

Plus, she’d be leaving in good company. Everyone would remember the week that Sorenstam, Henin and Wong all called it quits.

So Dot, think it over. I believe there are no more mountains for you left to climb. It is time to retire gracefully and move on to other positions here at WorldGolf.com.

Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe I’m swept up in retirement fever. So what do you think? Should Dot Wong hang it up, never to blog again? Or should she continue along her merry way? While there is no right or Wong answer, you know where I stand. It’s time for Dot to call it a career.

I think Dot needs to ask herself if the fire is still inside. She seems to phone it in on more posts than not these days...

I've noticed she rarely even makes appearances at WorldGolf.com staff events these days.

Also, I question that whole No. 1 female blogger title thing.

Dot Wong doesn't exist. I've staked that claim before. Jennifer, wait, staff events? Are there such things? If I wrote "staff events," Kiel and the boys would claim I was making veiled manhood references/reverences.

Of course staff events (by which I mean, get-together for WorldGolf writers) exist, Ron. They're as real as the nose on Dot Wong's face.

Dat Wang is pitiful. Re-hashes AP bullets. Why are the only comments here from non-paid employees of travelgolfawfuldotsucks?

Hey....you need to keep Dot's picture up at least! ;) She doesn't need to actually WRITE anything!

Mr Parcells - Jennifer Mario is a widely respected journalist and author. See her novel (isn't that what we call fiction...*S*) about Michelle Wie becoming a golf legend/champion.

Jennifer - *I* think you're #1 here at world/travel golf blogs....MALE or FEMALE! At least you can put words into a coherent sentence (unlike Mon).
