Having spent the majority of November on the road, I’ve come across a few random thoughts and tips that could possibly make life a little easier for a Thanksgiving traveler. Ok, they likely won’t, but I can say with 78 percent confidence that they won’t make a travelers life any worse.
Stepping out of Ontario International Airport in Southern California, you’ll think think a bull crap bomb exploded. When the wind is just right, the smell will literally take your breath away.
And while Ontario International is nice overall, it’s one of those airports that makes you pay to rent a cart to haul their luggage. There’s a special place in hell for whoever decided that helpful luggage carts - which a person needs for usually about eight minutes - are a great profit-making scheme.
Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos Airport, aside from a terrible safety record, is the most gougingest airport I’ve come across. Can of Coke = $6.
Dallas-Fort Worth is among the many airports however that are fair price-wise for food and other items. Plus, it’s an extremely pleasant airport. Even the canned voice on the tram is soothing.
I will never eat a croissant outside of France again.
Beware a train strike in Europe.
Before your life is over, visit Prague.
If the opportunity arises, kiss your spouse near the Eiffel Tower.
When in Lyon, go to the Galleries Lafayette and head to the Le Malongo Cafe. Natalya will take good care of you, make whatever you wish with care and style, and maybe tell you a story about her figure skating days.
If you live outside the U.S., cherish the feeling you get when the customs people say “welcome home” when you return. It’s a very nice feeling.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
