Always dreamed of playing a round at legendary St. Andrews but have never been able to afford it? Well, now is your chance to actually own part of it.
Yes, soon you can buy hunks of sod from St. Andrews on eBay.
Of course, it’s St. Andrews Golf Course in Saint Charles, Missouri, but why get all distracted by specifics.
It seems St. Andrews Golf Course, which had been cut down to six holes, is now in the process of disappearing entirely to be replaced by a soccer complex. And any of the sod they can’t use for other area courses will be put up for sale at the popular auction site. From the Kansas City Star:
You can buy just about anything on eBay these days.
And in next few months, if all goes according to plan, more than 100 million users in the online market could be bidding on salvaged pieces of the St. Andrews Golf Course — including the grass itself.
On Monday the Overland Park City Council gave its nod of approval to a plan from Parks and Recreation officials to salvage parts of the St. Andrews Golf Course as the city pushes forward to rebuild six of the golf holes. The city hopes to keep as much of the old holes as possible, including sprinkler heads and trees to use elsewhere, but officials said some would simply be put up for sale if it could not be reused.
Parks and Recreation Director James Cox said he also hopes to use nearly seven acres of sod from St. Andrews to help renovation efforts at the Overland Park Golf Course driving range.
So keep an eye out on eBay, and some prime St. Andrews sod can be yours. And the decision to tell people what continent it came from will be yours, as well.
