If golf carts must be mandatory, at least they can be $100K electric stealth carts

In the U.S., playing a round of golf without a golf cart is like ordering the triple cheeseburger without a side order of super-sized bacon-cheese fries. It just doesn’t happen.

Still, there are those fighting for their right to walk. Recently, in fact, the Associated Press ran a story about how many golfers are getting ticked off over the fact that at more and more golf courses, walking just isn’t an option any longer. There’s even a book out titled “A Civil Right: The Freedom to Walk a Public Golf Course,” by one Dan Zurla, a retiree who has gone so far as file lawsuits against municipal courses that demand a cart to play their courses.

“Requiring golf carts changes the basic nature of the game and deprives people of their liberty to choose,” said Zurla. “Governments cannot make walking illegal on public land without a good reason.”

Of course, much like how net neutrality will soon be a thing of the past, time and profit will march on, and you can surely expect to see more and more golf courses around the nation try to increase revenue by forcing golfers into a cart-or-nothing proposition.

If that’s the case, however, golfers should have the right to choose whatever golf cart they so desire. Like say, the Clandestine Electric Reconnaissance Vehicle (CERV).

CERV me

Yes, recently The U.S .Air Force (USAF) was given a $3.2-million grant to try out these golf buggies of doom. But they can also be purchased by ordinary citizens for just $100,000 (with the caveat “no machine gun, choice of paint.")

The upsides are plentiful. face it, you could golf in a quarry with one of these babies. Plus, they’re electric, which makes them perfect in a time where environmental concerns are big issues for everyone. Plus, they’re also perfect for sneaking up on any enemies you may have.

If you’re interested, check with the makers of the CERV at American Electric Vehicles or read more about it at The Register, or Wired.

In America, the simple fact is that golfers should be free to walk their round of golf. But if they’re going to take that away from us, at least we should be free tooling around in a cart that meets size requirements to be air-transported on AFSOC’s CV-22.

The truth be known you get about 17 holes out of a charge and then you push it back to the clubhouse.
