Dana Perino has a big job ahead of her, as she takes over as White House Press Secretary for the outgoing Tony Snow. We wish Snow nothing but the best in his battle with cancer, but we also wonder if Perino is up to the job.
One way to see if she’s ready? Have her take over as spokesperson for the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup. Then she could slowly explain to everyone how and why Steve Stricker could very well end up as Player of the Year, or FedEx Cup champion, or whatever award it is that he’d win if he keeps playing the way he’s been playing.
Stricker added to his recent hot streak at the Deutsche Bank Championship, shooting a 4-under 67 to put himself two back of leader Mike Weir. Yes, that Mike Weir, who shot a sizzling 65 to share the lead with Ryan Moore. Big talker Rory Sabbatini also kept his hot play going, heading into the clubhouse after a first round of 68.
The guy normally associated with any and all Player of the Year awards, Tiger Woods, is slow out of the shoot and is seven back at 1-over. If Tiger doesn’t pick it up, it will take someone with Perino’s skills to explain why he’s wouldn’t be considered the best on the PGA Tour for 2007.
