Republicans: Here's some great golf reading for your next filibuster

Wednesday July 18, 2007 | 07:42:26 am 373 words, 3960 views

Senate Republicans, who’ve taken to filibustering and obstructing nearly every bill that comes their way in a stubborn refusal to vote, were forced by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to back up their threats this time, and spent last night debating the Levin-Reed Amendment.

As the GOP has shown consistently this last year, they are huge fans of the filibuster (no, Diane Sawyer, Reid wasn’t the one filibustering), it’s quite possible Republicans will be forcing Congress to spend many a long night in Washington, in a desperate attempt to avoid voting on anything.

So, being that golf tends to far outweigh work for most politicians anyway, here’s some reading that senators can take to the stand the next time such obstructionism occurs:

Geoff Shackleford: He’s the Instapundit of golf, a truly relentless blogger. He knows everyone, gets inside scoops the rest of us don’t, and has a great following.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster: A Rock ‘n’ Roller’s 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict: Vincent Damon Furnier’s tome to how golf kept him from partying himself to death.

From the Red Tees: Celeste Palermo’s has written a book that draws on her experience developing as a golfer to help novices avoid making the same mistakes.

Chris Baldwin:
Say what you will, but he saw the writing on the wall for Michelle Wie light years before anyone else. Now find out if his prediction that golf will dry up and blow away if a non-name wins the British Open will come true.

Reluctant Jam Boy:
Some of the best stories from a caddies’ perspective you’ll ever read. Plus, he writes a lot, which will help on those long, lonely nights on the senate floor.

Of course, if you want a great run down of some summer golf reading, Kiel Christianson gives you a full rundown of great golf books at WorldGolf.com.

So Senate Republicans, obstruct and filibuster away. It’s your right to grind the government to a standstill, after all. But just remember, at least while you’re refusing to do the job you were assigned and making the world a more dangerous place in order to protect yourselves politically in the next election, you can at least brush up on your golf knowledge.

What do you mean the writing on the wall?
She is 17 years old, a bit early to be claiming some sort of vindication either way.
