Today was the big day for U.S. soccer fans as David Beckham officially became part of Major League Soccer, joining the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Ironically, as one of the biggest stars in the UK settles in the UK, one of the biggest golf stars has settled nicely in Scotland, as Phil Mickelson is in good position after two rounds to take home the Scottish Open, as he prepares for the upcoming British Open.
I say a trade is in order. The U.S. gives the UK one golfer capable of winning a major, and the UK gives us one soccer player capable of actually bending the ball.
On the field of play, it’s advantage UK. Mickelson has some good years ahead of him, and could likely get Europe its first major since, I don’t know, who was it, Seve?
The U.S. will get a soccer player that maybe has a year or two left before his schedule becomes wall-to-wall rehabilitation stints. However, one lock of Beckham’s hair is more interesting than Mickelson’s entire body.
Plus he’s married to Posh Spice. And has a kid named Brooklyn. And does photo shoots shirtless (let Phil try that).
And face it, even with Mickelson around, it’s not like the U.S. is going to be winning the Ryder Cup ever again anyway.
So how about it, UK? This is a deal you should make because, face it, Becks is made for the U.S. Look at all the attention we give Paris Hilton for accomplishing absolutely nothing. At least Beckham has a few World Cup goals to his credit.
It’s up to the United Kingdom. The deal is on the table. Beckham and family for Phil and family. Let’s talk.
