Tiger Woods hosts the Golfer Supremacy Rankings

Monday July 9, 2007 | 01:31:41 pm 563 words, 5563 views

Here at the Golfer Supremacy Rankings, we’re proud to say we’re sponsored by Tiger Woods. He doesn’t actually sponsor us, mind you, but it gives us pride to say he does.

Such was the world of golf last week, at the Tiger Woods-hosted AT&T National. It was a glorious time to get “Tiger Woods” into every story about the event, being that he was the “host,” whatever that entails. And, heck, even though he was mired in the middle of the pack, that didn’t keep ESPN from breathlessly shouting that “Tiger’s lurking” near the lead (he was seven shots back heading to the final round at the time.)

Nonetheless, we here at the Tiger Woods Hosted* Golfer Supremacy Rankings are only interested in ranking the best golfers in the world, based on achievement. Sure, we could load this whole thing up with Tiger Woods references in order to spike readership numbers, but that’s not our thing. We have integrity here, and Tiger Woods or no, we won’t resort to fancy word play to get your interest.

*Not really

Golfer Supremacy Rankings

1. Tiger Woods
Comment:
His baby’s momma was in the hospital during the U.S. Open, causing many a golf writer to spazz out that a) he should have rushed to his wife’s side, or b) he’s a manly man who worries not about the women folk, and is single-mindedly after golf greatness, wife and kids be damned. While the truth is likely somewhere in the middle, Woods also was in the news for explaining why his daughter’s name is Sam (that’s what Tiger’s pop called him) and for his amazing body and workout routine. That he finished tied for sixth, seven shots back of winner K.J. Choi is just proof of Tiger’s greatness - he can score a Top-10 when golfing is the last thing on his mind.

2. K.J. Choi
Comments:
Another win for Choi, who also won the Jack Nicklaus hosted Memorial. There’s been no word on whether Choi - one of the great Presbyters of all time - gave 10 percent of his winnings to a local church, as he did after winning the 2005 Greensboro Classic. Regardless of his tithing practices, another nice win for Choi, whose six victories on the PGA Tour prove once and for all that South Korean men can also be world-class players, not just the women.

3. Colin Montgomerie
Comments:
It took a while, but Monty finally scored win No. 31 in Europe. By winning the European Open, Montgomerie goes into the British Open with momentum, and gives his legion of fans some time to dream before he misses the cut and goes home in disgrace.

4. Brad Bryant
Comments:
The weather in Wisconsin was brutal, but Brad Bryant kept it together to bag his first major victory by winning the U.S. Senior Open. Bryant’s victory opened some eyes - look for him to shed his nickname of “Dr. Dirt” and return to the Champions Tour as “Tiger Woods Hosts Brad Bryant".
