If there is one thing Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie could agree on, it’s that this Independence Day is the perfect time to give to the troops. And I truly believe that Natalie Gulbis and even Paris Hilton would gladly engage in bikini fights in order to make sure U.S. Troops have a little something extra to help them get through the job they’ve volunteered to do.
All name-dropping aside, as mentioned before Give 2 the Troops is looking for golf donations to send to U.S. Troops stationed overseas. Be it balls, tees, clubs, nets, etc., if it’s in decent condition, they’ll take it.
Jim Best of The Best Balls got this ball rolling by donating 10,000 golf balls to the troops in desperate need of a diversion, and even that wasn’t enough, as he told me he found a local businessman who pitched in with some clubs, as well.
They could also use money, of course. Give 2 the Troops in a nonprofit organization dependent on donations and spend up to $4,000 or more per month on delivery fees. So really, how hard is it to go grab your checkbook, write a check for $5, $10, $20, or whatever, and mail it here:
NC Branch Give2thetroops, inc
3109 Landmark St
Greenville NC 27834
Or send some equipment. Or get with some golf buddies and send a bunch of equipment. Plus, it doesn’t have to be golf stuff. They have a full range of projects over at Give 2 the Troops, so head to their Web site and see how you can pitch in.
It’s July 4, and this is as non-partisan a plea as can be - this is about men and women serving their country far from home. You know what they’re willing to do for you. What are you willing to do for them?
Once again, you can visit the Give 2 the Troops Web site by clicking here. They even have their own blog, which you can access by clicking here.
I’d like to thank the following for helping out with this and spreading the word:
We can do better, and can do more, though. TravelGolf.com and WorldGolf.com bloggers, where are you? Readers, let’s hear from you.
Because while you’re enjoying your day off and all that it entails on the 231st birthday of the U.S., there are troops out there that don’t get holidays off. They show up every day in the most dangerous of circumstances. So do what you can. Celebrate the Fourth of July with substance. Give to the troops.
