Here at the Golfer Supremacy Rankings we name the greatest golfers in the world week after week after week (unless we take a week off, of course).

And after this weekend, what week could be better to name names? The USGA seems to have gotten one right at the U.S. Women’s Open, which featured few under par and the best battling for the big prize, while another new winner made his way onto the scene on the PGA Tour.

For the GSRs, it was our kind of week. So let’s play the name game.

1. Cristie Kerr

Comments: At just 29, Kerr has now firmly established herself as the best U.S.-born female golfer on the LPGA Tour. And while the fashionable storyline for the U.S. Women’s Open was that Lorena Ochoa choked, the simple fact is that Kerr never let up, and forced the field to match 5-under to win a U.S. Open. A great victory by Kerr, and unfortunately a great time for bloggers to use that picture, while calling her Kristie Kerr, Christie Kerr or any other variation of her actual name.

2. Brian Bateman

Comments: By scoring a birdie on the final hole, Bateman scored his biggest golf achievement as he took home the Buick Open title for his first career victory. Bateman becomes the latest in a slew of intriguing first-time winners on the PGA Tour this year, and while it took him 151 tries to secure a victory, the thrill of getting to have people stop saying “Hey, loved you in ‘Arrested Development’” makes it worth the wait.

3. Jennifer Mario

Comments: It takes a special kind of effort for the Author of “Michelle Wie: The Making of a Champion” to cover the U.S. Women’s Open - while writing “Any LPGA event with Michelle Wie in it means I’ll have plenty to write home about” in a preview post - and then nearly completely avoid any mention of the teen after she WDs at something like 175-over. It was almost like the movie “The Village” where they spoke of “those that we do not speak of” (and then spent the entire film speaking of them, but not by name).

That said, make sure to run out and buy “Michelle Wie: The Making of a Champion”, available at Amazon and all local booksellers.

4. John Daly

Comments: One of golf’s biggest names gets into a knife fight with his wife, has injuries to his shoulder and ribs, has a gut the size of a steroid-guzzling exercise ball and has played like crap most the year. Then, he damn near completely salvages his career at the Buick Open. Big John still has some work to do, but his T-16 finish and the $76,000 paycheck that comes with it may put him back on the road to regaining his PGA Tour card.
