Now that “Tinkerin’” Tim Finchem is running things his way at the PGA Tour and looking to maximize revenue, we suggest he take a look at college football, and notably its fan base.
Golf’s austere approach keeps true, dedicated fans from emerging. And sure, golf has fans that worship the game and its players, but not in the way college football fans do it. You know, drunkenly.
If golf could get fans like Alana Colette Connell of Alabama, it would capture popularity as it never had before. Connell - who partied before new Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban arrived, then kissed him, then took over the press conference, then got busted for a DUI on her way home - is everything that’s right in sports.
