NHL star scores ace his first time golfing; Golf world amazed - thought NHL had disbanded in 2004
Reigning National Hockey League rookie of the year Alexander Ovechkin drilled a hole in one on the 160-yard par-three fourth hole at Springfield Golf and Country Club in suburban Virginia. It was an exceptional feat by the 21-year-old, who was playing his first-ever round of golf.
“If he dies, he dies. I cannot be defeated!” Ovechkin said to puzzled onlookers after the achievement.
While Ovechkin later admitted that the shot was lucky – he needed several mulligans before landing the ball short of the green and having it roll in the hole – he also taunted millions of American golfers desperately seeking their first ace.
“This was my first time playing golf. I guess it’s easy,” said Ovechkin, who plays for the Washington Capitals.
While golfers around the globe were impressed by the feat, many were even more amazed with the fact that the NHL even existed anymore.
“The NHL still has a season? Why?” wrote William K. Wolfrum just a couple moments ago.
The NHL is still going strong, however, keeping its dozens of fans thrilled with such stars as: Stanislav Chistov, Andrei Taratukhin, Anna Kournikova, Sergei Federov, Leo Tolstoy, Alexander Suglobov, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Ivan Drago, Alexander Radulov, Vladimir Lenin, Maxim Afinogenov, Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale.
