it's better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all. i am proud of her for at least going after her own dreams and doing her own thing rather than doing what the society expects her to do. and she should be proud of herself for beating out more than half of the men who entered the qualifying event with her. as you have said, not qualifying will not hurt her image at all. if anything it will only draw more crowd and more media at next year's qualifying event.

Sue you just hit the nail on the head! Who cares that she did not qualify, who cares if she has never won on the LPGA tour, who cares that she only has one victory in her glorious amateur career, she will draw more people and create more media hype and sign more endorsements and in the end that's really all that matters.
