TravelGolf.com This Week: By far the world's best golf podcast

Friday May 26, 2006 | 08:36:49 am 398 words, 3653 views

Call me a relentless self promoter if you must, but after just nine episodes, one thing is extremely clear – the TravelGolf.com This Week Podcast is the best golf podcast going. (Listen to it here)

The main reason is this: Host Dave Berner doesn’t go for the forced-amateurish, buddy banter that seems to dominate the podcasts I’ve heard.

You’ve heard some of these podcasts, you know, they go something like:

Golf Expert Guy 1: Alright, here we are, the podcast.

Golf Expert Guy 2: Yeah, the podcast!

Golf Expert Guy 1: Michelle Wie!

Golf Expert Guy 2: That’s what I’m talking about.

Golf Expert Guy 1: Sweeeeeeeet!

Golf Expert Guy 2: But let’s get back to the podcast, all right?

Golf Expert Guy 1: Yeah, the podcast!

Golf Expert Guy 2: Tiger Woods!

Golf Expert Guy 1: That’s what I’m talking about.

Etc., etc., etc…

The TravelGolf.com This Week podcast has had segments with award-winning golf-course designer Ron Garl, Phil Mickelson, Kiel Christianson, Tim McDonald, Chris Baldwin, Luke Swilor and many others whose lives revolve around the game.

But it’s also had Shanks telling out his experiences golfing the Robert Trent Jones Trail and Ron Mon discussing golf in Buffalo, and the world.

Sadly a few of the podcasts have me, as well. That the podcasts can overcome my segments shows its true quality. Because people, let me tell you, I sound exactly like a duck. In fact, an entire segment was just me quacking. It’s really bad. My voice sounds much better on paper it seems.

At WorldGolf.com, we host a couple podcasts, as well: The Golf for Beginners podcast is fun, because Barry and Stacy Solomon are beginners in every sense of the word and you get to learn with them, you can just feel their enthusiasm to help those that are new to golf, and new to Internet technology.

Golf Gear News’ Bruce Stasch brings enthusiasm and a reporter-like zeal to his informative podcast that covers everything from wacky golf news to equipment reviews.

But in the end, nothing touches Berner’s baby. In less than 10 shows, TravelGolf.com This Week is setting the standard for what golf podcasts can be. If I may be so bold as to quote Kanye West: “Our Podcast is better than yours.”

And it’s only going to get better, as we all have areas we want to improve in and quack quack quack quack quack quack.
