Robbing banks for green fees possibly a sign golf is too expensive
Ok, maybe it’s time to accept that green fees are getting out of hand at some courses.
In Maryland, Thomas C. Springer told a judge that he needed money to play golf. That’s why he robbed a bank last November.
Seems that Springer walked into a Chevy Chase Bank in Kensington, gave the teller a note saying he was robbing the joint.
As surprising as this may seem, it appears Springer didn’t really plan things out well, and managed to only get away with $400. Which was booby trapped with a dye pack, which immediately exploded.
He was arrested minutes after.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Springer, who has been convicted in four previous bank robberies, was a press secretary for one-time Rep. Toby Roth of Wisconsin in the 1980s.
Springer told a judge his crime spree was so that he could pay his rent, and play golf.
A word of advice for those like Springer, who will go to any extreme to play golf: Try a municipal course, they’re normally much cheaper, meaning you only really need to rob a liquor store for the money. This will help eliminate the social awkwardness of being charged with a federal crime.
Just a helpful hint. Just in case, though, perhaps the NSA should keep tabs on Scott McClellan for a while. If they can spare the time.
