Wie Warriors closer to being unbearable, while Gulbis, Sorenstam start slow at Kraft

Friday March 31, 2006 | 07:39:47 am 166 words, 2910 views

While Lorena Ochoa was busy getting her name in LPGA history books with a staggering 10-under 62, Michelle Wie went from the classroom to the first major of the year in style, with a sterling 66.

Morgan Pressel did little to disappoint with a 3-under 69.

Annika Sorenstam didn’t blow anyone away, going one-under her first round, and Natalie Gulbis, who has been solid all year, was disappointing with a 1-over round.

It will be interesting to watch what transpires the next few days. While obviously anything can happen, a few things come to mind. Ochoa obviously can’t keep this up, but she probably won’t go Davis Love III, either. Look for her to drop back, however.

And could this be the week Wie breaks through? Whether you love her or hate her, most everyone agrees it’s not if she wins, it’s how much will she win and against whom.

But regardless, the Wie Warriors will be simply unbearable if she makes the Kraft Nabisco Championship her first.

hc2 (am I speaking with a robot?),

Wm W is not a Chris Baldwin wannabe, just read his other posts. Anyway he's the administrator here, so saying that is like saying Odin wants to be Hundig.

He's just stating a fact. When MIchelle wins there's going to be a mushroom cloud of Wie-jubilation. Statues of Frank DeFord will be toppled.

Things will get ugly when the Wie-warriors plant a golf club on Baldwin's head, like the U.S. Marines on Mt. Suribachi. (And I'm kinda looking forward to it...)

FUNNY

Chris Baldwin has spent quite a bit of time in the last while insulting Wie over her sparkly watch, and how she reacted when she was asked about it.

Well Chris Baldwin's own favour golfer, Paula Creamer did practically the same thing when asked about her Blackberry (personal organiser thing). She said "it's shiny" as she showed it, and the P on the back of it for Paula, and giggled. Just like Wie. She was just being a normal girl, just like Wie.

To add further insult to injury for Chris, Paula was asked about her rivalry with Annika. Paula stated that they were in 2 tournaments together this year and Annika beat her in Mexico, but Paula BEAT Annika when they played in Arizona. Yes, Paula actually said that she BEAT Annika in Arizona.

This claim by Paula backs up, us Wie Warriers, who have been rightly saying that when you place higher in a tournament than another player you have beaten them.

I am glad that Paula Creamer agrees with us Wie Warriers.

By the way, here is the web address for the Paula interview, because unlike Chris, I like to show the source of the claims:

And.........it is such a large head we will have to clear the brush with a flame thrower and then set a charge to make a hole for the staff. Sempre Fi

Sorry Liam, it is only temporary.

I am at home all week for a very long scheduled family event, and so golf is only temporarily on the backboard.
And as regards the golf career, I am striking the ball better than ever before, and playing a fair bit, but my own serious season will be from May when the European Tour comes home, and I should be playing practically every week for quite a while.

I don't know if the Wie fans will be come "unbearable" if she wins, but it's no mystery how the Wie bashers will behave if she doesn't - with their typical ridiculous, pointless, venomous, childish attacks.

What does being unbearable mean when it comes to supporting Michelle Wie? If she wins, then more power to her, and if she doesn't, does that mean that we will hear from the Wie Bashers going on and on and on? And what could you possibly say at this stage of her career?

It's a sad state of affairs when people can't celebrate someone's good fortune and hard work and the recognition that comes with such accomplishments. Each athletic career has varying stages of successes and failures and then the cream rises to the top. For those who bash Wie, either you are a frustrated mediocre athlete or a non athlete all together.

I don't see an inflated ego problem with Michelle or bad manners, profanity, crying jags, and who has heard her make a snide remark about her competitors? And if the Wie Warriors are unbearable, well, so what? There are far worse things to be unbearable about.

She goes to school, gets her straight A's at an exclusive private school, and plays golf on the LPGA tour--and has ambitions of going to Stanford. In what Universe is that a bad thing?
