Stop Everything! Duval leading the field in Japan

Thursday November 17, 2005 | 05:43:27 157 words, 1618 views

This deserves immediate attention: David Duval is leading the Dunlop Phoenix in Japan, as we speak, one shot up on Tiger Woods after shooting a 64.

“I played well,” Duval said. “I’ve been playing well for about a month now but just haven’t been scoring well. I’m well aware of how I’ve played over the past few years but I’ve worked hard and it’s good to start a tournament not behind the 8-ball.”

People, we need to start lighting candles, or something. If you have any voodoo rituals you’ve been holding back, now’s the time to unleash them.

Duval, a British Open champ and the the former No. 1 player in the world, needs our support. Outside of the goofy sunglasses, the guy never has deserved his plight: Going from the best in the game to a running joke used as the definition of a top-athlete just losing it.

Keep it going, David, I’m definitely rooting for you.

Here's hoping he keeps doing well. I certainly don't expect him to win it.

He wears the sunglasses because he's light sensitive.

Does anybody know the last time DD led a tournament? It's gotta feel great. Maybe he's really on the way back.

Heck, I'm not sure, Phil. I mean the poor guy has really only reached mediocre a couple times in the past few years.

However, he just shot a 68 and is one back. Very good news for those envisioning him putting up a 79. Two more rounds to go. A Top-10 finish would really give him a great jumping off point for next year. A victory would be just mind-blowing.

Duval is at 7 under in a great position. 10th place is at 1 under, so he has a great chance of a high finish.
