My Fearless US Open Prediction: Forget Mickelson - Johnny Miller Will Try To Out-Duel Tiger

Thursday June 12, 2008 | 11:43:03 am 322 words, 7270 views

This week I have made a few fearless predictions about the US Open:

#1 – Johnny Miller will be obnoxious, irritating and unlistenable as he says things just for the sole purpose of saying things. He is as Monkey as Monkey can be. Yes, a Monkey that once shot 63 in the US Open – yet, the golf tips and comments he makes often times just don’t make any sense. And unfortunately many Golfers watching the telecast will try his golf tips even though they may not pertain to you – well maybe not unfortunately, we probably get half our business from Golfers that have messed up their golf swing listening to him.

So on the other-hand, listen to what Johnny says this week, practice all of his tips - you’re going to do great!

#2 – Tiger will be the talk of the week (and rightfully so, since he’s the ‘Best Player On The Planet’) as they give you close-up after close-up of his left knee – and without a doubt, Johnny Miller will come up with some explanation of why Tiger’s swing has put massive pressure on his left knee. Johnny might even give a solution to how Tiger could fix his swing.

Yes, of course in his own mind he’s qualified to tell Tiger how to fix his golf swing – didn’t he once shoot a 63 in the US Open? Hey, you know what the difference between Johnny Miller and God is? God doesn’t think he’s Johnny Miller!

#3 – Someone will surprise you. A name that you’ve heard in the past, that might not have won lately, will come up and make a run at the title. Somebody like a Lee Janzen or Colin Montgomerie type that has been at the top in the past, but may have faded back the last few years. I’m not saying that either of these Players are going to win it, but they’ll be near the top on Saturday night after the 3rd round.

Yesterday he said, winning the US Open has not
done anyhing for the last three winners, Ogilvy, Cambell and Goosen.
Unbelievable, get that goon off the air.

Yes, that was a broad overstatement for all three of them, but definitely true in Campbells case. He has fallen off the end of the earth since winning the '05 US Open. Goosen started a gradual regression that turned into an all-out slump. Lately has been showing a pulse. And Ogilvy had the post-1st-major swoon that he broke out of late last year.

Johnny Miller is in love with tigger. And he is also unlistenable anymore (I turn down the sound when he is broadcasting a golf tourney). But the over-the-top award goes to the entire NBCSPORTS group. How many replays of a 5 foot putt of tigger's can the TV audience endure. Myself, I counted to 6 then turned off the broadcast.

Johnny Boy thinks every PGA Pro should shoot 59 just like he did in his dreams. When a golfer has a 40 foot birdie putt he will comment that the putt isn't difficult, probably out a couple of balls on the left edge. Go get em Johnny Boy!
