Virginia's Creighton Farms G.C., a challenging Jack Nicklaus Signature Course
On a recent trip to the nation’s capital I was lucky to get invited to play Creighton Farms Golf Club in Virginia. The golf course is part of a high-end private community outside of Washington D.C. and you can spot a number of multimillion dollar homes during your round. I was paired up with Lt. Aaron Ojard who is part of a group called the “Wounded Warriors.” Aaron told me he got “blown up” in Afghanistan while serving his country in the Navy.
We were first off to tackle the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Course on a weekday morning on a picture-perfect, sunny and steamy day. Luckily, Aaron had played the course before so he could point out the hidden hazards to me, which I wasn’t able to see on many occasions. The Golden Bear designed a diverse and very challenging layout at Creighton Farms that is highlighted by huge and very undulated greens, his signature bunkering and many wetlands (often not visible) that were tied into the design. The course was in immaculate condition and proved to be all Aaron and I could handle – and then some.
I was honored and delighted to play with Aaron. I consider him to be one of the ultimate American heroes – he sacrificed everything to protect us and our freedom. It’s men and women like him that make this country the greatest in the world!
