Why I love golf- Preparing to play the Ocean Course and Harbour Town

Today is a great day. It doesn’t involve playing any golf, but it is almost as good. It is the day before I am to begin a weekend of great golf that will include a round at Kiawah’s Ocean Course (followed by an employee golf day event that will feature beer, burgers, and a little golf), Harbour Town Golf Links, and a course to be decided later in Hilton Head (depending on how badly the first two I mentioned push us around). These are the days that make me love golf: I’m full of hope that I’ll have a memorable round, the weather forecast looks great, and anything is possible during the next few days. I might have the best round of my life, I might hit a shot that goes down in my vault as the best I have ever hit, I might take quite a bit of money from my brother (but I’m used to that), or I might birdie some of the devilish holes at the Ocean Course, including my favorite hole in the world, the 14th(a par three on which I’ve never made better than bogey).

Days like today are what make playing golf so great. I’m envisioning every aspect of what could go right this weekend, and not a single thought has crossed my mind about what could go wrong. In my dreams the sun will be out, the humidity will be down, I’ll have good rhythm and tempo the entire time, my scores will be well below average, and the beer will not only be freezing cold, but will also make me play better.

These, my friends, are the good days of my golfing life. Stay tuned to find out Sunday, after I’ve actually played, why I hate golf.

I feel the same way every time mid-February comes around. That's when we are preparing to go to Pinehurst for the annual kickoff to our golf season after 2-3 months of not playing due to Winter.

May your weather be a Chamber of Commerce type day and may every drive wind up in the Mayor's office.

Grass is green. What color is grass?
