Ohio State vs. Texas or a round at Pebble Beach?
Today, September 2nd, is the first official day of what always turns out to be a very difficult stretch in my year. Just as the weather in the South is becoming perfect for golf, college football begins, leaving me with roughly fifteen Saturdays on which I will be forced to make an almost impossible decision. What formula will I use to determine the better option between playing golf and watching College Gameday on ESPN? What game is valuable enough to pull me away from a great round, and more importantly, what course is worthy enough to pull me away from a great game?
It’s an internal conflict I’ll be battling throughout the fall; both sides are bound to win some, and both sides are bound to lose some. I’ll have to give up many opportunities to make my first hole-in-one, but I’ll gain opportunities to watch my beloved DAWGS (not Dogs) pound the ball down the throat of the SEC East. In watching the DAWGS I will leave myself open to the possibility of smashing my T.V upon a loss, but I will have saved myself the possibility of snapping one of my shafts after a bad shot on the golf course. See the conflict I’m facing?
There are good reasons to go either way on a Saturday. I guess in the end this is a good problem to have, not unlike the problem Georgia has with three great running backs.
So, only one small request- members of Augusta National, please refrain from inviting me to play on October 7th and October 28th (the dates of the Georgia vs. Tennesse and Georgia vs. Florida games, respectively), as I don’t want to be the first person who actually considers turning down an opportunity to play a course that has been the source of so many dreams (some X-rated) for so many people.
Happy College Football season to all.

I appreciate the advice, but clearly neither of you are college football fans.
Greg-it's not only about seeing the action, but about the experience of the game day and watching the game live.
Dave- I agree with the expression "boobtube" if it involves reality TV, soap operas, game shows, etc. To use that expression regarding SEC football is blasphemous. I'll try not to hold it against you.
